Why become vegetarian?

"1. Avoiding meat is one of the best and simplest ways to cut down your fat consumption. Modern farm animals are deliberately fattened up to increase profits. Eating fatty meat increases your chances of having a heart attack or developing cancer.2. Every minute of every working day, thousands of animals are killed in slaughter-houses. Pain and misery are common. In the US alone, 500,000 animals are killed for meat every hour.7. A sausage can contain ground up intestines. How can anyone be sure that the intestines are empty when they are ground up? Do you really want to eat the content of a pig's intestines?9. Every day, tens of millions of one-day-old male chicks are killed because they will not be able to lay eggs. There are no rules about how this mass slaughter takes place. Some are crushed or suffocated to death. Many are used for fertiliser or fed to other animals.10. Animals who die for your dinner table die alone, in terror, in sadness and in pain. The killing is merciless and inhumane." (Source of http://www.VegetarianLunches.com/smf)more 15 reasons find here http://vegetarianlunches.com/smf/index.php?topic=4.0

  • Not just the fact that your eating dead flesh and dead energy but you are consuming bacteria, antibiotics and sadness! These animals live horrible lives for our gluttonous behavior. Not to mention the Earth suffers from this which in turn causes havoc in our daily lives. Global warming and Greenhouse gases are affecting by our consumtion of meat.
Additionally, rainforests are being cut down at an extremely rapid rate to both pasture cows and grow soybeans to feed cows.

We are at an enlightened age where we should know better than this. Think about this before you sit down to your next meal of fear, death and disaster!

    • So true and well said. I am a vegetarian because I could no longer bear that the animals I ate had suffered horribly. Nothing living should have such a fate. I cannot condone it.
  • Did try it for a year, all went well, exept for all the toxins in the veggies, the ones they spray onto them and the ones flying al over the place.Veggies are living things so they do absorbe al this stuff and it all ends up in my plate, even if you wash them with the chloronated water of your sink.I did love the Tofu thought,Tofu hamburgers,Tofu hotdogs,Tofu with spagetti,Tofu mixed hamburgers with greens. But now i am only half vegetarian, works for me.
    • not bio vegetables have less toxins than meat anytime anywhere
a vegetable could be bio without toxins
but an animal even if it was fed with bio food, its meat is too hard for your organism
about the tap water I agree, I don't use tap water anymore too, but you should choose the mineral water with less minerals in it because otherwise it increase you pH value
  • With my physician overseeing my bloodwork and monitoring me thoughly, I decided to stop eating meat. It is true that one needs to watch the B1 levels, as that is the first thing to deplete, my doctor says. She has here PHd as a family physician and also has degrees in nutrition. I chose to go meatless (let me clarify slightly....I still eat fish of all kinds, scallops, and shrimp) but no poultry, pork, lamb, or beef of any kind. I started this life change because I was having nightmares about animals being slaughtered and the whole food processing processes for some reason and it kept haunting me endlessly when I tried to eat meat after that..... I had watched a special where they were slaughtering lambs (which USED to be my favorite of all time meat) and it really got under my skin and made me become overly sensitive to the whole eating animals concept. I have found since cutting out slaughtered mean that my chloresterol levels have gone down, my body fat index is less, I have lost some weight, and generally more healthy. I was lucky that I love vegetables and grains and fruit anyway and usually was not a huge meat eater to begin with. I guess I quit mostly because I felt sorry for the poor animals and their treatment and my conscience just could not get past giving the gag reflex just thinking about meat anymore. Now if I can just convince myself that fish feel pain too, and that lobsters when boiled alive do feel the heat.....basically for some reason I realize that all plants have feelings too, and this is going to be a delema for me...what will be left to eat? I do eat milk and milk products because it does not hurt the cow when milked I do not think....if it does, please do not tell me.
    • First of all Fruits are meant to be eaten. That's why their colors and tastes are so good. They are produced by nature to be eaten, because in this way after animals have eaten their crops, they will be dropped by the animals' crap which contains very good environment of abundant minerals for the seed of the fruit to grown.
So I'm sure that by eating those fruits that are ripe of a fruit tree or fruit bush etc., you won't hurt the nature and the beings of the nature at all.
In case of vegetables, I don't know yet, but I will look after them.
But in case of vegetables, the crops of the vegetables are also meant to be eaten.
So everything that are healthy and are crops you can eat! :)
      • Thanks for clarifying on the fruits and vegetables....I have been so empathetic lately that I don't know what is up anymore with things, everything living seems so spiritual to me lately, even inanimate objects seem so full of life.....maybe a part of ascention?, I am so attuned to things lately that I always took for granted before. I play music and have ambient lighting for my houseplants and that is why I think they have feelings, because they are growing so well with the conditions I provide for them. I used to live in constant stress and physical danger and my plants always died no matter what I did to care for them. Now I am happy at last and safe and my plants are so lush and beautiful now.....so I think they must have feelings.... So now I get worried about my spinach cringing when I put it in the boiling water, lol......I will stop with my ramblings about this because I sound like a nutter.......

    • Thanks Robby J,

"You can get supplies of iron by eating dark green, leafy vegetables, nuts, pulses, sunflower and pumpkin seeds, dried fruits, pulses, sunflower seeds, almonds (and other nuts)."

you should read more in this topic: "How to make sure your body gets the vitamins and minerals it needs?" here http://vegetarianlunches.com/smf/index.php?topic=14.0

If you are lacto-vegetarian you get enough protein from milk and cheese, otherwise :
"Those who believe plant protein is inferior to animal protein may be surprised to learn that plant proteins contain the same 22 amino acids as animal proteins."
"Plant-based foods like legumes, most whole grains, fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds all contain protein but do not contain complete protein by themselves. However, the body forms an amino acid pool from the foods eaten throughout the day. When a vegan consumes a variety of foods eaten at breakfast, lunch, and dinner, the body can use these amino acids to make up complete protein."
"People are often surprised to learn that all plant foods contain protein. In fact, it is protein that gives all plants their structure. Whether plants grow upright or sprawl on a vine, protein is a basic component of their cell structure."
Beans, cereals, grains, nuts, seeds, are very good protein sources.
  • One of the constituents that seem to be lacking in vegetarian and particularly vegan diets is vitamin B1.

If one would like to make-up this deficiency is to consume mushrooms, preferably raw or lightly friend in olive oil with garlic.

    • Plus that fear energy people consume with meat increases subconscious agression which is going to become conscious sooner or later!!!!
