I have just watched the two trailers.
Now I know why we are unlikely to save the world from ourselves. Just continue to fantasize about a few heroes doing the work we ourselves are supposed to do.
Obviously the creators of the series have also been clearing a tidy income by exploiting the awareness that something is badly wrong with our global society.
Sorry to be a wet blanket, but a romantic notion like this is not going to achieve practical results. The unromantic fact is that, we planeteers, are destructive through the way we are currently making a living on this planet.
To understand this, some basic economic literacy is required.
I know this seems a hard and discouraging request. That is because we have been indoctrinated to think that economics is an academic profession too complicated to be understood by ordinary people.
The truth is that economic literacy needs to be part of basic education: "The purpose of studying economics is... to learn how to avoid being deceived by economists."
— Joan Robinson, noted economist.
Bad economic ideas, driving bad economic practices, are destroying the earth's capacity to tolerate us: "Full Employment" is a bad economic idea because jobs cost the earth.
People need income, not jobs. Needed goods and services are mostly produced by machines with an ever decreasing need for people.
The power is ours. But what is the true power?
It lies in demanding the wages of machines not environment-polluting jobs/employment. Then we will be increasingly free from the "curse of Adam". We will have the personal and collective time and energy to care for and cherish the earth.
To start with read up on the the arguments for Basic Income (also known by many other names).
