    According to my info, the size of quakes is minimized for public consumption. In other words, the quakes are much stronger than reported. Anyone else heard this?

      No ... I haven't heard this, but have indeed noticed that what is given out in the media is often less than what has been recorded with the Iris Seismic Monitor.
      
      It's interesting observing these quakes on a global scale as you can sort of see how the plates are moving and how each plate might affect another one beside it.
      
      The only thing missing from this that might help us to understand what is happening globally is coinciding volcanic activity.

It's weird, I got up around 6:20am (Queensland Australia time)... the time of the offshore Northern California earthquake.
