    • thanks for sharing this Kenya.

  • osme questionable "facts" here.  wind making buildings sway, part of the construction so that they dont fall over and break in high winds, take a ride up the CN tower and watch it sway too.

1821 AND 1893 are both reported as "the last hurricanes to directly hit NY"  which is of course impossible, there is only 1 last of anything.

all of the next section DID hit new york and WITHIN the last 75 years
then we have the claim that there hasnt been a hurricane to hit new york city directly in 75 years, pff yeah right ok

September 14, 1944 — The 1944 Great Atlantic Hurricane makes landfall on Long Island as a category 1 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson hurricane scale at a high forward speed of 40 mph (64 km/h). Wind gusts of well over 100 mph (160 km/h) breaks previous wind records in New York City, while a minimum pressure reading of 28.47 inches is recorded on Long Island. 117 homes are completely destroyed, while 2,427 are severely damaged and almost 1000 businesses are destroyed or damaged. In all, six people are killed, and one person is injured.[27]

1954 — Hurricane Hazel - wind gust of 113 mph at Battery Park, highest ever recorded in New York City.

August 11, 1976 — Hurricane Belle makes landfall on Long Island as a Category 1 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson hurricane scale, producing up to 6 inches (150 mm) of rain.[43] 30,000 people are evacuated in New York in anticipation of Belle. Wind gusts of up to 70 mph and tides of 7.2 feet (2.3 m) above normal are reported in New York City and Long Island. Moderate river flooding occurs, as well as minor crop damage. In all, one person is killed by a falling tree, and damage is reported at $257 million (1976 USD, $980 million 2007 USD).[44]

August 27–28, 2011 — Hurricane Irene makes landfall on Coney Island as a Category 1 hurricane and immediately weakens to a tropical storm shortly thereafter. Storm surge reaches underneath the boardwalks in both Coney Island and Long Beach. The Hudson River flooded, inundating parts of lower Manhattan. Top recorded winds reach 70 mph at the height of the storm and causes parts of New York City and Metropolitan areas to evacuate; the city shuts down including MTA, and mass transit. Wind gusts topped 91 mph (146 km/h) in Sayville, NY. There were 2 EF0 tornadoes that were confirmed by the National Weather Service, although the damage caused by these tornadoes were minimal. Also Irene caused many power outages and trees down. It was reported that LIPA The Long Island Power Authority had over 400,000 power outages. The storm killed five people in the state. The storm also had major impact on Upstate NY, including the Capital District Region. Severe flooding was widespread, with the Mohawk River rising 3.2 feet above flood stage in Schenectady, NY's historical Stockade district. Schenectady County Community College was severely flooded, causing upwards of $1 million in damage. Parts of Greene, Schoharie, and Delaware Counties were nearly unreachable. This storm was also historic in another way, in that it caused the National Weather Service in Albany, NY to issue a Tropical Storm Warning for the local forecast area. This had never been done before, and actually required a breach in protocol to achieve. Prior to this event, the Albany, NY forecast area was considered outside of the valid area for Tropical Storm warnings.

so if one is supposed to hit every 75 years, 2012 - 75 = 1937 so that makes all 4 of the hurricanes i posted to hit new york city, all within the last 75 years, hazel having record setting winds.

so ACTUALLY if there is a 75 years pattern then we are NOWHERE NEAR overdue since that last one to hit new york city was oh would you look at that LAST F'N YEAR. so no i dont think so

usually you dont produce this sort of contradictory blog, is everything ok?

they are all interesting pictures at least.

    • No I am not very ok today....my hot water heater crapped the bit today and other household catastrophies involving a wiring overload and a flooded garage, it has been a rotten rotten day.....LOL thanks for caring.

I have been busted by the post police, lol One.  Just making sure you are on your toes and in prime shape for the shredding of posters morale, hahaha....Actually I did not read it thoroughly, I just passed it along thinking it was interesting and had other things on my mind like the money flying out of my savings to afford a plumber, new water heater and a whole new electrical panel....Evidentally the original poster did not do his or her homework, and I did not thoroughly spend and hour or more researching the information, so bad on me....I deserved to be punished....  So now I will go flog myself and put myself to damnation and shame for the posting of erroneous information....Someone has to keep your mind keen for the fact disputing don't you know. Chalk up one fail for me, but at least you liked the pictures....now I am off to my punishment cave to hang my head in shame....bad me for posting something that at the time seemed interesting....whooooosh, the sound air deflating out of my ego, let it be the wind in your sails, lol...Hey want to contribute to my plumbing and electrical fund????...

      • Sorry to hear about all that's going on with you Marique.

Don't worry about One, and thanks for putting up interesting info for us.

        • Thank you Butterfly, I am glad you enjoyed it, it caught my interest (even if I did not have time to do the research to check every fact, lol.)  I don't ever worry about Onesy though....he is a good friend of mine.  I like to bust his chops as much as he likes to bust mine, all good there.  Thanks Butterfly, it has been a kind of draining day, lol...but now I am more worried about the people getting hit by the hurricane, it makes my tribulations seem very small indeed....Just one of those days....

          • Yes it's certainly a strange horrible day.  I can barely concentrate and it would be terrible to see any devastation.

            • just to put my two cents in here, there are solar eclipse energies (for the 14th Nov) which are really getting to people right now. they're definitely getting to me whether I like it or not. also causing problems with electrical equipment due to some kind of crazy electrical energies. May or may not be the cause, but could be a factor. Hope your irritating electrical problems sort out soon Marique and that this strange day gets better for everyone :)

  • wow had no idea!! Hope ya'll New Yorkers are ok :) thanks for sharing, very interesting!
