I always been interested in how people use their hands. And what we're able to create with our hands and our imagination. I've always been interested too in people who can do things with both their hands.

I'm naturally right handed, and growing up, my right was always dominant, and I wouldn't do much with my left hand. But I always wanted to be ambidextrous, and for the last few years, I've practiced alot doing things with my left hand. And I'm at a point now where I'm almost as good with my left as my right, I can write pretty well with my left hand, it's not so much a struggle anymore, I brush my teeth with my left hand, I can even use my mouse and basically do anything that my right hand can do. All in my quest for balance.

What about you guys, how good are you with your opposite hand? Do you practice with it often? I'm just curious to know, I always like hearing people stories, and learning more about them, and what they're about, what they're into.

  • I was born a leftie but according to my sister, I forced myself to use right hand when I was young. As a result, I am ambidextrous as long as I remember. I do use my right hand in most things but I don't have a problem using my left hand. I can play competitive table tennis using my left hand. When I was still playing darts, I play with myself pitting my left hand against my right hand. They are basically at the same level.

  • Funny to read some of the comments here, lol..,

I am both-handed. What i mean is this..

    - I write with right hand..

    - I throwing ting with the left hand.

    - I paint with both hands.

    - I use left hand on Data-mouse.

    - I cook, holding cups and wash myself with both.

    • Wow never tried that before and still I just did it. It made me think of child hood games, doing that sort of things and I was never good at that. But to my surprise.. I had no problems doing any of them just now.. Weird.... Nice,, but weird..

  • I am not naturally right handed , however I think I can do thangs with both hands. When I was a kid, I played ping~pong with lefty, I did tenis also practicing lefty. I can write with lefty as much as I am gifted in smacking the volleyball with both hands, which I did once and it got me to some higher~ups of national volleyball polish team in early 80's........All rhetoric aside, I can do both.................................................................

So, what is the point of this post ; spirituality, abilities, bragging rights or what ~?~.......................................................

    • Well if you didn't like this post, you didn't have to comment. I just was interested to know if people have the same idea as me, in terms of wanting to be ambidextrous, and I'm glad many people do. I think it's a bit of everything, spirituality, abilities, bragging rights. And for me, it's all good. It's all about balance...and it's neat to know people can do things with both their hands.

  • i am whatever hand is required handed for most things. technically im left handed, i write, eat, hold sticks and raquets for sports, throw and a few other things with my left hand.

however i shoot missile weapons, play musical instruments, use scissors, open doors , use machines and other htings like that right handed becuase that is how they are.

some activites do not go by handedness, like shooting for example, for that you have to determine which of your eyes is the eye for taking the picture and which is the one for depth, you use the picture eye for shooting. so i shoot right handed.

computers i use right handed as well. and the right side of my body, like my arm and back and chest is more developed on the right side because i live in a right handed world.

one of the few items i have seen that seems to work well for lefty's in the machine world are lathes, when using tools and files on lathes the tendancy is to hold the handle of the tool in your right hand and with your left hand hold the other end of the tool for control and grip, this is for right handed people, and when doing this you have to put your left are over the very dangerous spinning chuck(the part that holds the piece you work on)

being a lefty i hold the handle in my left hand and guide with the right, so my ars are safely away from the spinning chuck, which spins anywhere from a few rpms right up to thousands of rpms.

regular shop tools i usually use right handed once again because they are designed that way and dont work conveniently the other way. prime examples of this for everyday items are scissors and kitchen knives

    • Well maybe that's why you say you're very left brained and logical, because you're right side is more developed than your left lol And that can happen, even if you're left handed, we do live in a right handed world. Like driving a stick shift, you need to be good with your right hand to do that. Many things in society are made for right handed people.

Brings to mind an episode of The Simpsons I saw once, of Ned Flanders creating the Leftorium lol A store for left handed people, they should do that. Writing must be troublesome, because you can't really see what you're writing. Or a can opener, must be hard to use a can opener, when you're left handed, unless you have a machine. So I think many left handed people are almost forced to have to develop their right hand. Not that way for right handed people, if we want to be good with both hands, we have to work on it.

      • no its not hard to use a can opener when you are left handed, you jsut use your brain and come to the conclusion of using it in the hand it was designed for.

obviously you dont understand what developed means, i am physically stronger on the right because it gets worked out more, WHICH HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE GENETIC PREDISPOSITION OF WHAT HAND I USE FOR FINE MOBILITY OR WHAT SIDE OF MY BRAIN IS DOMINANT, you seriously only read what you want to read

  • I'm a naturally left handed.. I use to play base ball and I batted left and threw right. My mom got a disease that damaged her writing hand. So I learn how to do everything with my right hand as well. I can also brush my teeth with my right and and also use a fork. So I can use both!!

  • Im right handed but there are some things I prefer to do with my left, and sometimes I do well enough with both interchangeably. I cant write that well with my left though.
