I am studying a related science major but the actual botany degree itself appeals to me so much it's crazy. My only real problem is trying to find related employment for someone with a science degree in plants/horticulture itself. It seems like there are few forestry jobs available, and not many well paying careers that will allow me to use the degree the way I would like. All I want to do is help the earth remain green and help her rebuild her surface one flower at a time. I feel like I'm fighting a uphill battle since most people have no idea how important the earth ecosystem is to their well being. Without proper care our oxygen, food supplies, medications, and more will be seriously decimated without their key components....plants. Everything that majorly impacts the human world starts with them. They are our lifeline in so many ways I just wish more people cared enough about them to respect them. If anyone else has ever experienced the same thing in trying to do what they loved only to be laughed at for being awake I could use some encouragement right now. This sucks.

Well thank you for being so supportive. I was just having a bad day. I work hard, HARD to help myself/others/and the earth. I'm just working out the details as much as I can. You rock John, you always have very down to earth advice. And One you are helpful too and I love your honesty. Bottom line, thank you both. I needed that.
Well she said people were laughing at her. And...that's definitely no reason to give up what you feel in your heart you want to do. As for job prospects, there's always at least 1 job out there for these type of things. It's not as hopeless as it may seem, there may not be as many jobs like in other fields, but there are jobs available, and I reckon those jobs will be looking for people to fill them, because not many people go into that field.
It's pretty simple for me...when it comes down to listening to the mind or heart, always go with the heart....when it comes down to your will for your life and someone elses will, always go with your own. After all, you are you, nobody else is living your life, so you mays well live life the way you want to live it, in a way that will give you the most joy and fulfillment. Why should you let anyone rob of you of that....why try to do what someone else wants you to do, against your own better judgment and your own will. It doesn't make sense. Plus we need more people to work with plants and take care of the environment, it's a noble thing you're doing....don't let some ignorant people draw you away from what your heart calls you to do.
