I think it depense on human mind set : for example, you treat an animal with compassion, kindness and loving energies without any whips and shouting orders to perform tricks for example, and animal knows that by instinct. That animal knows its treated with respect and "they" do not attack......................
This is what a changing human consciousness is doing.
