I think what we think of as "God" may even be transforming and evolving, I don't know if anything ever stays the same, we are a reflection of something greater beyond what we can comprehend and we are experiencing break throughs in our consciousness into something amazing.
We light the way through our own "self realized" Enlightenment. We have intense awakenings in this lifetime that are able to guide us - and other people can trigger that in us - so we feel strong and deeper connections to them, and I think that is because we have our mind, heart, and spirit open to understand the symbology, and something even deeper opens up within us. BUT I believe those connections are sacred ~ and I am ever thankful :)
People want to "go back to the last sane moment they ever knew" and latch on to old thought patterns and stereotypes, but all will be transformed. Welcome change, and things start to become a lot clearer and a lot better! :)
I agree in principle with what you are saying, that we must find the path for each of us within. Having said that, I think he will return for symbollic reasons if nothing else. The trouble is when he does, people will either not beleive it actually is him; or worse still, go into hysterics when they see him.
