Newborn Cheetah Photos Revealed as Cubs Turn One Month Old

The newborn cheetah photos have been released on the cubs' one month birthday. These cubs were abandoned by their mother at the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute, so keepers are raising them at the Smithsonian's National Zoo.

The boy cheetah cub was delivered naturally, but the girl was delivered via c-section which is incredibly rare. Could this be why the mother Ally abandoned her cubs? Thankfully they are growing and thriving in the care of their human keepers.

It is important that these newborn cheetah cubs survive because they are threatened with extinction in the wild, so each cub is critical to the species' survival. Watching these two little cubs grow up should be an interesting study in nature vs. nurture since their mother is not around to teach them how to be cheetahs. It seems likely that even though they are being raised by human keepers, their instincts will kick in, and they will have the traits of their species.

Thankfully the cub's mother Ally is doing well after her rare c-section, and the two cubs are growing quickly. Even so, cheetah biologist Adrienne Crosier said, "Every cub that is born into this population is critical, and we're only producing a fraction of the cubs that we need every year to become sustainable."

Hopefully these two nameless cubs will help regrow this endangered species. It is great news that they survived.
