Almost all the people on this planet would prefer that peace prevails. With good reason and intent we passionately assert that the world needs everyone to be more kind and compassionate. That people need to stop being so violent and cruel.
It’s hard to disagree with the truth of such sentiments and indeed such intentions are worthy. However “They” don’t seem to be responding very well. In fact the nastiness could be seen to be growing.
Insisting that the world around you transform is a demand that will fail to succeed. The world just doesn’t work that way!
To his chagrin King Knut discovered this fundamental dynamic when he absurdly commanded that the tide stop flowing. You can’t command anyone but yourself.
Indeed the more you insist that others must change, the less it seems they do. “They” will not action your demand. Actually “They” will mirror your shrill complaint in a perfectly reversed image that puts the onus back on you.
Fortunately you can create all the peace in the world by creating said peace in yourself.
Since you’re the person that perceives the problem, it’s your perception that needs to change. You job is to save yourself from the strife inside your mind. Then as you succeed in saving yourself, you do in fact succeed in saving the whole world.
Each of us will eventually learn to take responsibility for more than just our actions. Charitable action is of great value but that action alone is not enough. As you know “good” actions can be performed with various expressions of insincerity that in turn do poison the outcome.
It’s crucial that we also take charge of our thoughts since they’re the basic building blocks that create each individual world. I have to find ways to transform the conflict I feel in my mind to experience the peace my heart yearns for. I respectfully suggest that you do too.
A world of peace is nobody’s business but yours. You must find a way to live in the midst of peace even as the chaos and conflict roils around you. This is the only way anything can ever improve. Take heart since you are the solution.
