Hollywood's fascination with extra-terrestrials as villains

If we were being attacked by space aliens we wouldn't be playing these kinds of games – US President Bill Clinton, 1999.Washington 1951. An alien lands in the US capital and runs into a gang of hostile humans. Exasperated by their viciousness, the alien flees. But, before departing, he delivers a warning to residents: “It is no concern of ours how you run your own planet, but if you threaten to extend your violence, this earth of yours will be reduced to a burned-out cinder.” Though it was the humans who were bad guys in The Day the Earth Stood Still, in the end, the alien became the villain.This has been the case ever since. Aliens have appeared in films in various avatars, ranging from downright scary to silly. In Invaders from Mars (1953), Martians take control of human minds. In Invaders from Space (1959), evil chickens invade earth in a chicken-shaped space ship. In Invaders (1967), aliens from a dying planet try to colonize the earth. In Men in Black (2002), 'scum-of-the-universe' aliens threaten to blow up the planet.If the plot seems absurdly similar, it is. It could be reduced to 15 words — aliens come into contact with humans, get into a fight and end up biting the dust. All the films are set in America. For decades, American filmmakers have gone into deep space and feverishly looked for war with aliens who might even not exist. Why?James Cameron might have delivered the answer. In his $300-million, 3D Avatar, US marines invade Pandora, an earth-sized moon where a corporate consortium is mining Unobtainium to solve the energy crisis on Earth. On Pandora, the marines get into a war with Na’vis, blue-skinned humanoids who pose no threat to earth. As the marines rain bombs on the Na’vis, it is hard to miss the parallels with America’s two ongoing wars. In Avatar, the aliens are not villains. They are victims of human (read American) greed. Replace Unobtainium with oil and Na’vi with Iraqi (or Iranian ) and the film's anti-war message is clear.Cameron’s new film is being talked about for its hi-tech special effects but its real strength is in turning the typical alien plot on its head. When a 15-minute preview of the movie was shown to a select group in August, legendary critic Roger Ebert thought it was just another sci-fi film. "Since Pandora is the home of life, it seems a little odd to go to all the trouble of finding it and then going to war with its life forms. What is the human objective? Stamp out all other life in the universe?" Ebert wrote in his first comments. Now, he says the film could be an 'allegory about contemporary politics.'If so, Cameron will have gone down a path recently taken by Steven Spielberg in War of the Worlds. It was full of 9/11 imagery of crashed planes and ash-covered people. Some critics panned Spielberg for “exploiting” a tragedy, but others saw it as a profound statement on US foreign policy. “The engagement with post-9 /11 fear and iconography was a good-hearted attempt at bringing home the horror the American military inflicts all over the world in the name of US business interests and xenophobia,” wrote Dan Hoy, a Canadian film critic.Blame it on Cold War paranoia or call it American cultural imperialism, but politics has always been the subtext of Hollywood’s aliens dramas. Some experts even believed there was a grand design in casting aliens as evil. Towards the end of his life, Wernher Von Braun, a NASA scientist, believed that the “haunting images of evil aliens wanting to take over earth” was part of a government plan to “to justify weapons in space, based on hoaxing an extraterrestrial threat.” Just before he died in 1977, Von Braun told his secretary Carol: “Remember, the last card is the alien card. We are going to have to build spacebased weapons against aliens and all of it is a lie.” In the mid-80 s at the height of the Cold War, President Ronald Reagan actually proposed a space-based weapons programme called ‘Star Wars’ . It was the ultimate tribute to the cult of the sinister alien.But space scientists view the possibility of an alien attack as nothing but fear of the Other.Mars Attacks, a movie in which Martians devastate the earth because “it’s fun” , has the incumbent US president ringing a British professor for advice. “They're very advanced technologically. Which suggests, rightfully so, that they're peaceful. An advanced civilization is, by definition, not barbaric,” the professor tells the president who accepts the explanation with reservations.Perhaps with Avatar, Hollywood seems to have understood this simple fact. And grown up in the process.

Mass media was created (most producers, assumably by the same people who created the banks) To influence the cognative processes of the masses. One proven theory is that the regular human bieng will first react to the unknown with FEAR -Sigmund Freud- classifies this primitive region of our thought process as the "ID" and it provokes us to seek pleasure and avoid pain. The mass media would portray an "Alien" as something unkown so in previous years especially during the "ufo revolution" 50's-60's when these events were recorded hollywood of which was created by Thalberg, Louis B Mayer, Harry Cohn, the Warner Brothers that were all of Jewish Faith (nothing against them really as I dont have the power to judge) would create the image of invasive creatures with advanced technologies that would assume control of us as a society, fly around in little or big saucers zapping the crap out of human creation. But in a neutral perspective if you look at Earth, and apply the human entity, one might see us as alien and destructive creating a parody of our own existance with these films, James Cameron on the other hand seems to have the ability to reach other centers of our mind (the creative side) and introduce us into a fantasy realm with realistic laws and cause-effect. I personally do NOT pay attention to mass media as it disrupts my focus/thoughts and quite frankly costs to much!! I like the reference to "pandora" though and "avatar" because it changes the perspective as non harmonic (barbaric) humans stepping even further from thier own realm and causing destruction in others, meaning untill we get our differences settled here on earth we have NO right spreading further into time and space unless, we were created to control and destroy those that are less powerful. This goes against my belief that we were created to restore balance in the universe and create using love and greater energies. But if you take a good look at society today, we are not doing that, as a matter of fact we are slowly destroying ourselves. And I thought that the star wars program was in place to disable I.C.B.M's in the stratosphere before they would detonate within the areas of major cities during the cold war. But they might've found something on the moon though that proves theres something more advanced out there, take a look at the spaceship designs and how they suddenly designed the X-15 and advanced aerodynamics after they "explored" the moon, wait untill they get to mars and the moons PHOBOS and DEMOS, some classify these as meteorites trapped by the Mars gravitational pull, oh well im not a Nasa consulatant, so we'll see what bridge we need to cross when the time arises!

By the way, I used to like 'Rage Against The Machine' (still worth listening to for some I think, its good to listen well and read betwen the lines....:).. I started way back listening to Bob Dylan, who who was the 'stumbling block' for me, a 'nice' girl, well educated, from a well to do , very strict religious family to begin to question deeper and Bob Dylan's songs together with Joan Baez, shaped a generation and more to understand deeper and it caused many to take postion against the injustices of the times...Maybe you like the X Factor kid that was being pushed by Millinaire Simon Cowell for his own benefit?
....everyone to their own I say, I rather have the internet No1....:), its more organic than the X Factor hype, total manipulation.....!

Have you read Jay Weidner's (www.sacredmysteries.com) revealing article in the November-December 2009 issue of New Dawn (www.newdawnmagazine.com), 'How Stanley Kubrick Faked the Apollo Moon Landings'?

"...It is in the use of this cinematic technique [Front Screen Projection] that the fingerprints of Kubrick can be seen all over the NASA Apollo photographic and video material...Kubrick used the faking of the Apollo moon mission as an apportunity to make one great film...2001: A Space Odyssey is the only film in MGM history where the executives...never scrutinised the film. Why weren't they more interested in this very expensive endeavor? Because MGM did not fund 2001, the US Government did...Kubrick died soon after showing Eyes Wide Shut to the executives at Warner Brothers. It is rumoured that they were very upset concerning that film... Warner Brothers has even come out and admitted that they re-edited the film...it means that we will probably nerver see the un-edited version of this film...Kubrick insisted in his contract that [July 16th, 1999] be the date of the release. July 16th, 1999 is exactly 30 years to the day that Apollo 11 was launched...."

I say don't worry you guys, I do believe the cosmos is working a deep way to awaken people at many levels, if you haven't seen Avatar soon you'll see what I'm talking about!

I strongly recomend it, specially cuz it must be the first movie in Hollywood history to show Americans as the bad guys or even illuminati.
