Once she prayed to the Great Spirit and said:
In full honesty I have to confess, that it seems impossible to me loving all these people around me. They pull on my nerves, and I find it so hard keeping myself in a silent mood! Nevertheless I know of love being the very essence of all that is. Can you not help me to understand? I can´t love them all! Their ignorance and superficial utterances drives me almost crazy!
In the night she had a dream. A big tree was growing from the middle of the Earth, and it´s branches were all over the planet. Then millions of birds came to the tree and found place to rest and sit. They were of all possible kind and appearance, some beautiful and many ugly. Some were singing and some pooped. The tree seemed to be a good place for the birds, for they seemed to feel very well there.
Then the owner of the tree came with an army of people. And he spoke with a loud voice: From now on it is prohibited for all ugly birds to come here and sit in the tree. Furthermore it is strictly prohibited to poop and pollute the tree. My men will shoot every bird they see pooping and being ugly! I wish a nice day!
Then time started running. It became winter and spring and summer and fall and winter and spring. The tree didn´t want to put furth buds. Over the winter he started dying and found no nourishment in the spring. His roots haven´t seen any poop for a long time thus starting to wither and finally die.
The woman woke up the next day very impressed. She intuitively knew the Great Spirit had shown her herself being that tree. And she was deeply moved that even ugly and pooping people found comfort in her tree she was, and that even those ones feed the tree with their poop and ugliness.
You can´t love all people, that is impossible and in heavy form it is masochism. Love is not something which thrives by force and compulsion. But you can let it be to allow even strange birds to sit in your tree you are - just simply let them rest and be there. And by time you will discover how wonderfull the Great Spirit has managed the obvious mess - you are in reality a big tree giving shelter for many. Let it be and have no army of men to shoot unfitting ones - it is really unnecessary...
