Consciousness in animals.

My wife and me were talking and she wanted to know if animals like us choose to come to earth and in what amount of counsciousness do they understand the ascention and the role they play or do not play in it? i have read numerous books where they mention animals have home worlds and planets where they usually live. They seem to be verry conscious on their home planet, but seem to have the same or even worse problem than us remembering Or are animals just made by higher beings and put here? Why would anybody in the higher realms want to make a mosquito so he can go and bother me all night? Or make a fly that keeps on comming back even if you hit it 10 times.
