Conditioning

Scientists say if you ring a bell every time you want to feed your dog, then after some times, the dog may as well begine to salivate when you ring the bell. I wonder what would happen if you now blow a whistle before you ring the bell. Then what if you clap your hand before you blow the whistle? Ok perharps animal's memories are not that sharp. But fortunately, or at times unfortunately for man it can turtle all the way down.Conditioning is indead a way of learning. If gazells donnot fear the roar just like they do, the lion, then they are in a disaster. Those who want first to prove if the lion has teeth or it is just a roaring harmless will get their proves in the stomachs of lions.However, problems comes when things turtle all the way down. We chase x. Seeing that chasing y is related to getting x, we begine to chase y. Seeing that chasing z has something to do with y, we leave y and begine chasing z,.., it turtles all the way down.There are things that I would like people to carefull about. Specifically to be carefull about being conditioned to chase the wrong target:1. Originaly, we are supposed to seek knowledge wisdom and understanding. But like dogs silavating for bells and whistles, we begun to seek education, then schooling, then certificates, then noble prices2.)Originaly, we sought houses, cloths, food etc. Holus bolus, we begun to seek money, then jobs, then education, then schoolings,..,3.)Originally, we sought God and spirituality. Then we sought religion, the priests, then buildings, temples. Even Jesus once ask; is the offering important or is it the temple? Was the sabbath meant for man or was man meant for sabbath?4.)Originally, we sought for a hope in afterlife. Then we sought for souls. Seeing that we could not explain some things, we suggest that soul was beyond understanding. Then we begun seeking mystification, unintelligibilities and nonsense till we forgot the original question.5.)Originaly, we sought sex, love, children etc. Then we sought marriage, the marriage certificates etc6.)Originally we sought sex. Seeing that newdness mean sex is next, we begine to seek newdness. But animals have not done that. They donnot begine to get ready for sex just because the other animal is newd.There might also be a trick narture does to us. If everytime I utter abrakadabra, it begines to rain, then if it one day rain without me uttering abrakadabra, it will be a gread wonder! In other words, we donnot realy understand the world as in cause and effect. We are just conditioned to identify things with other things. Seeing the bell ringing always prior to food, the dog might begine to amuse himself that the bell CAUSES the food. Then he thinks that he understands it! Perharps a good example of natural bell ringing then food thing is the body and the consciousness. Because we see that the body er the bell always accompany the consciousness er the food, we try to find causal links when perharps narture is simply try to teach us something and there is no such NECESARY causal link.

Excellent point you make here. We often get caught up in the seeking and the doing and lose the plot of what it really is we were looking for. People search for this illusive thing we call ´´happiness´´ and they try everything to be happy. They think that money and material things will make them happy, so they work hard at a job they hate and give themselves stress and fatigue,,,, making themselves sick and unhappy in the life...trying to be happy. It becomes a never ending circle of desire and wanting more and more and never seeing that we are becoming farther and farther away from our goal of being happy.

During all this, the thinking, the life and the society all become more and more complex..with all paths leading to endless changing from one form of suffering to another. The thinking has become so complex and confused that many have even forgotten the original goal and they go through the life repeating the same habitual patterns that didn´t work before.

There is a path out of this endless circle of confusion.....meditation is a good place to start... This goes against normal 3d logic. People think that in order to be happy we need to work and struggle and achieve when in reality the thing that might help the most is to just to sit quietly and do nothing for a while. Meditation might not make one happy,,,but it will clear the confusion so we can find a clear path to the goal..

I remember I was once advicing some soccer fans. I saw that soccer fans cry or even at times some commite suicide when his team was beaten!! That was to completely miss the point as to what soccer was all about! The original target was ENTERTAINMENT. Then we begun to seek COMPETITION. But competition in games is of value only as long as it is entertaining. Once the entertaining part is over, and we seek winning on its own, it is a clear sign that we are now salivating at ringing bells!

  How true...all this struggle and competition has taken a lot of fun out of the life. Remember the fun of kicking a ball for no reason at all. Then our friends came by and we all kicked the ball together...and laughed.

Good reply, FW. You get the point!:) The chasing for indirect targets creats complexities and great difficulties. Our society has become a maze and a puzzle. We need some simplicity such as hitting the target directly.
