Will I be attacked for posting this? Yes I have been; see below.
The following was written
by Ben Stein and recited by him on CBS Sunday Morning Commentary.
I am a Jew, and every single one of my ancestors was Jewish. And it does not bother me even a little bit when people call those beautiful lit up, bejeweled trees, Christmas trees... I don't feel threatened.. I don't feel discriminated against. That's what they are, Christmas trees.
It doesn't bother me a bit when people say, 'Merry Christmas' to me. I don't think they are slighting me or getting ready to put me in a ghetto. In fact, I kind of like it. It shows that we are all brothers and sisters celebrating this happy time of year. It doesn't bother me at all that there is a manger scene on display at a key intersection near my beach house in Malibu .. If people want a creche, it's just as fine with me as is the Menorah a few hundred yards away.
I don't like getting pushed around for being a Jew, and I don't think Christians like getting pushed around for being Christians. I think people who believe in God are sick and tired of getting pushed around, period. I have no idea where the concept came from, that America is an explicitly atheist country. I can't find it in the Constitution and I don't like it being shoved down my throat.
Or maybe I can put it another way: where did the idea come from that we should worship celebrities and we aren't allowed to worship God as we understand Him? I guess that's a sign that I'm getting old, too. But there are a lot of us who are wondering where these celebrities came from and where the
America we knew went to.
In light of the many jokes we send to one another for a laugh, this is a little different:This is not intended to be a joke; it's not funny, it's intended to get you thinking.
In light of recent events... terrorists attack, school shootings, etc. I think it started when Madeleine Murray O'Hare (she was murdered, her body found a few years ago) complained she didn't want prayer in our schools, and we said OK. Then
someone said you better not read the Bible in school. The Bible says thou shalt not kill; thou shalt not steal, and love your neighbor as yourself. And we said OK.
Then Dr. Benjamin Spock said we shouldn't spank our children when they misbehave, because their little personalities would be warped and we might damage their self-esteem (Dr. Spock's son committed suicide). We said an expert should know what he's talking about.. And we said okay..
Now we're asking ourselves why our children have no conscience, why they don't know right from wrong, and why it doesn't bother them to kill strangers, their classmates, and themselves.
Probably, if we think about it long and hard enough, we can figure it out. I think it has a great deal to do with 'WE REAP WHAT WE SOW.' Funny how simple it is for people to trash God and then wonder why the world's going to hell. Funny how we believe what the newspapers say, but question what the Bible says. Funny how you can send 'jokes' through e-mail and they spread like wildfire, but when you start sending messages
regarding the Lord, people think twice about sharing. Funny how lewd, crude, vulgar and
obscene articles pass freely through cyberspace, but public discussion of God is suppressed in the school and workplace.
Are you laughing yet? Funny how when you forward this message, you will not send it to many on your address list because you're not sure what they believe, or what they will
think of you for sending it. Funny how we can be more worried about what other people think of us than what God thinks of us.
Pass it on if you think it has merit.
If not, then just discard it... no one will know you did. But, if you discard this thought process, don't sit back and complain about what bad shape the world is in.
My Best Regards, honestly and respectfully,
thn stop pushing everyone else around. the problem is not theist vs athiest or any other bleif vs any other belief.
the deal is in a country which is supposed to respect all beliefs we cannot have schools and government institutions teaching or including only 1 belief system.
teaching christian creationist beliefs in school is inappropriate in the science class and belongs in theology classes. praying in our governemtn buidlings is also inappropriate, even more so when one groups prayers are supported and others are not.
whatever you believe is fine as long as it is not being pushed on others.
when an athiest is in school being taught that evolution is a lie, this is WRONG. when a muslim is in school forced to say the lords prayer this is WRONG.
our laws say no killing no stealing as well. no need to have religion to push those ideals in schools, along side other religious beliefs.
yes you have freedom of religion just like everyone NOT in your religion has freedom FROM your religion.
your entitled to yor opinion in the US Constitutuion that was written by Christians and Jews with I don't know how many references to God-if people like you could rewrite the Constitution would you include references to the Creator?
no i wouldnt. god or gods have nothing to do with what we do down here.
the constitution says to keep religion out of the state affaris does it not?
yup here it is
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
so that means we do not teach or support any religion over another anywhere. people can believe whatever they want to and talk about it if they like, they cannot however force people to be indoctrinated with religious beliefs.
scince class is for science, religion belongs in theology.
to a believer like me God created science -allows discoveries bit by bit-God is the source of all things and should be included in government if for anything else try and remind douche bags that they are not God and do not have a right to coerce, bully, and steal from the populace
you are allowed to believe whatever you want.
you are not allowed to force people in schools and government to believe what you believe, or to even have to hear it.
you thinking that god should be involved in government shows that you should be nowhere near any decision making process for the whol group because you only wish to promote your own beliefs
you do not deserve to be protected by the 1st amendment because you wish to subvert it and use it to promote your personal beliefs.
luckily there are many people of faith in the government an security forces-if evertone thoght as you do, like telling me I have no right to the 1st amendment- we would all be in even more trouble than we are
now, just imagine me being a pagan in todays society.........................witches and bond~fires mixed with drum circle and half naked , beautiful folks dancing around as if in a trance...........................
I understand paganism-you simply align yourself with the older forms of God as nature spirits that require a blood sacrifice but there is no salvation in this practice, no ascension only power -an animal through pagan rites only-once you start human sacrifice your people eventually perish or are subjected to race or group karma-now offering sacrifice to Moloch is a completely different story
....no salvation in liking energies of Earth and Universe~?~...........................ARE U SURE ?
...blood sacrifies.............Too much to laugh @
it is a Power of connecting with energies of Gaia and Sky ...............................human sacrifice ? what ? education is in order Pet.................~!~
us people perish ?.........................what kind of B.S. you listen to ?
and speak of karma, for a change......................................................................................
pagan animal sacrifice to garner power from the ancient dark god/goddesses-do you know what Moloch is and what is done to sustain this 3d illusion? you need to be educated
You have watched too many movies.
you guys are too funny...........thanks for the laughs...............
