Are Enlightenment and God-Realization the Same?

They are not the same. Enlightenment is the cessation of inner dialogue - that’s all. There are many ways to describe Enlightenment, but the simplest way is to define it as the cessation of inner dialogue.

This does not mean that you won’t have a dialogue at all; you will have a dialogue when required. However, when it is not required, there is no dialogue. Moreover, the dialogue itself does not carry emotional charges, nor does it create a story.

An Enlightened person, when not engaged in dialogue, has no mental stories or emotional charges. And even if such thoughts or emotions do appear, they quickly dissolve.

That is all there is to Enlightenment. Then, you will truly experience what it means to live. But this is not the same as God-Realization.

God-Realization is to see, feel, experience and live with your God! The God you have created, the God you have chosen. Your God will be different from your neighbor’s God.

Though there is only one ultimate reality, it manifests differently for different people, just as an actor may play different roles in different movies. The actor remains the same, but the roles change.

For a Hindu, God may be Krishna or Shiva. For a Christian, it could be Christ. For a Jew, it may be different; for a Muslim, it may be different.

Your perception of God depends on your conditioning, background and personal desires. That is why we say, “You create your God.”

Your God fulfills your divine needs, appearing as you want Him or Her to be. You define the relationship - how your God looks, feels and interacts with you.

And from that point onward, it is like living with a Supreme Presence within you. That is God-Realization, which is very different from Enlightenment.

However, an Enlightened person can also be God-Realized. It is possible. One may first attain Enlightenment, and if there is a deep passion or longing for God-Realization - perhaps from childhood - one may also become God-Realized. The two are compatible. They are not incompatible.

Some people are solely focused on God-Realization. In India, there have been great seers who have sung songs saying, “We do not want Enlightenment. We do not want it. We only want to be with You,” addressing their God. There are people like that.

The choice is yours, but Enlightenment and God Realization are different. The two can be integrated; they do not have to remain separate.

Once you get a glimpse of God's Presence within you when you are in a state of Divine Stillness of Enlightenment - you will be divinely guided to integrate the 2 states and come live in every now moment experiencing the Supreme Love, Healing, Peace, Joy, and Bliss of God's Presence within you !!!

  • It's basically the same lol There's degrees of God consciousness. Just like there's degrees of enlightenment lol The closer to the light of God you are, the closer to God consciousness you become.

And I been on this path a long ass time, okay lol I'm one of the few humans on the path of God consciousness, and it's a heavy duty thing lol Becoming your God Self. But the body can only hold so much light, and consciousness, before it becomes uncomfortable, so best ease your way into it lol

Again it's not that different, it's just different levels of perception lol Light is feeling also, God consciousness is something else, but it's connected lol This is my experience.
  • It seems that Sri Amma Bhagavan is challenging the illusions and glamours surrounding devotees, as follows:

"Some people are solely focused on God-Realization. In India, there have been great seers who have sung songs saying, “We do not want Enlightenment. We do not want it. We only want to be with You,” addressing their God. There are people like that."

And I agree, that there are people like that, who do not seek to practice the art of self-realisation, but would feel more comfortable, with the sentiments surrounding their object of devotion, their god, their icon...They only want to be "with their god"...They do not seek their own divinity.....Through self-reflective unfoldment, leading to enlightenment...
Being with god, as a child seeks to be with a parent....But all must grow eventually...

This is actually the difference between the AGELESS WISDOM teachings, allowing understanding of good practices towards spiritual growth, by all chelas and the compartmentalised religious notions of sentimental followership...by devotees..And ones placed in boxes, starting with novices...It seems that the higher priests still retain such sentiments, too...and in effect, remain novices in their own areas...

Worship may be useful before one enters the degrees of initiation, at the birth (of self,) but has little meaning to one who has located one's inner spiritual beingness, and ashram, through self-realised evolution...One's inner spiritual Monad...through the Soul...

So yes, seek one's own Light within, while still being aware of the outer presences....We are one, indeed...as above, so below...!! You find out that your ashramic Master is a friend, helping you along, but not a finger wagger..as with religious "ashrams."

So in conclusion, there is a difference between self-realisation and "god-realisation." as per the definitions provided.
