Well Thoth did say he would return one day from The Halls of Amenti and hold to account all those he entrusted to protect the Pyramids (The knowledge) within, so if you ask me, I'd say the removal of "artifacts" in all it's varied forms from the pyramids constitutes the removal of knowledge! Thus the apparent "moving" of this statue could symbolise the beginning of his return. I think the statue was around in his day and was probably sensitive to his energy at that time too.
