El Santuario De Chimayo in New Mexico
El Santuario De Chimayo is a common place where pilgrims visit to heal. El Santuario is picturesque and a very beautiful location, but this city attracts most of their visitors strictly on those finding a miracle. Some visitors have called Chimayo, the heart of the land of enchantment. There is a church located in Chimayo that attracts over 300,000 people a year making it the most visited spiritual shrine in the U.S. The church is unique in site, it is not symmetrical, it is surrounded by an adobe wall with a weathered gated entrance. There are two beautiful bell towers and hand carved doors. There are no tours, it is a working church. There are wheelchairs and crutches that cover the ceilings, but the real reason people came in is the back of the church. There is a sacred room with a little well, called El Pocito. The well is full of sandy soil, tierra bendita. The people who have come to this church come for the tierra bendita and they rub it onto their bodies. Some even eat the soil and hope for a milagro (a miracle).
