My Voice - A Song by Wes Annac

This is a song I wrote, and it is intended to raise awareness of the plight of those who do not have a voice. (As goes without saying, I’m not actually singing about myself in this song.) Again, I’m only beginning to become comfortable with myself as a singer (perhaps it shows) and it will get better.

Lyrics:

Where is my voice

Why can’t I speak?

Where is my voice

Why can’t I speak?

I’ve been accused of poverty

And my rights, they do nothing for me

For all I’ve known is prejudice, societal cleansing

And my future is about as bleak as the block on which I’m standing

Where is my hope

For something real and fair for all

This I, this I don’t know

When I see

All the hate around, passed down, passed down

It hurts

Ooh it burns deep

And I know the hate is fabricated

Separation instated, premeditated

Yet it seems so real being right, right in the middle

When there is war where there should always be peace

The cause of it can stay behind the scenes

I see we’ve been fooled

But how can I motivate you?

I’ve been labeled the fool

But you and I, we carry the jewel

And I can show you the way

But you must trust in my intentions

You must trust in my intentions

Where is my voice

Why can’t I speak?

Where is my voice

Why can’t I speak?

You, you can give me a voice

Become aware before you make the choice

Of who to trust

They feed on ignorance

  • Thank you very much for the tips, John. They are welcomed and highly appreciated. :) :)

I've been trying to find my "groove" so to speak, and let the music, vocals and words flow through. I understand what you are saying about the structuring and with this song particularly, I am indeed always mentally trying to keep it pieced together instead of letting it flow.

I will happily integrate the advice given here, and I think you may appreciate some of the music I have coming up. It's different, and is itself a bit more flowing.

    Many thanks again,

    Wes :)

  • Not bad Wes. I'll give you a few tips though, you're structuring it too much...you're too in your mind. Music comes from your being, it has to flow...the singing has to flow. When you're performing, try to be inside yourself....don't listen to yourself or be on the outside looking in...if that makes sense lol Also...you're focusing too much on the words....and trying to tell the story of the words. Try not to focus on the words, but the sounds....the feel of the music.

It's like Michael Jackson would say about dancing, and it's the same for singing or playing an instrument. You can tell right away, when a dancer is coming from his head....he's counting steps, or trying to perform memorized moves....and it just doesn't work that way. You have to feel...you become the song, you become the music...there's a oneness there....and your body just sort of follows through, almost spontaneously. Or he'd say...artists tend to get in the way of the music....by trying. Get out of the way of the music. Don't try to write a song, don't try to perform the song....let the song write itself, let the song perform itself, through you. And it's very true, actually.

I've been singing all my life, and it takes years before you really get it down enough where it becomes automatic. Where you're not thinking about it anymore, you just do it. It's the same for anything really, any type of mastery of a skill....like Schwarzenegger would say, reps reps reps....just keep practicing, keep doing your reps, and eventually it'll become second nature.

That's if you're really serious about becoming a great artist....if not...well have fun, enjoy yourself lol I hope my tips help you, ultimately, that's what I'm trying to do :)

  • So happy you like the song, Feather and Marique! :)

Beautiful picture Feather (as always!) :)

    Much Love dear friends,

    Wes :)
