What do you do when you take a look at a clock and see that the time is 11:11? A lot of people make a wish. Some just take a note of the time. Actually a lot of people believe that the time 11:11 is particularly noticeable and memorable. 

There are a number of reasons and theories behind why this is the case. You might have heard some of them yourself. Whether you have or haven’t you’ll enjoy this look at them.

One of the reasons that 11:11 is so alluring is that when you use a regular clock it’s the only time that all four numbers on the clock are the same. So they are nice, neat, and parallel. This is something that stands out to us and pleases our eyes and minds. Especially if you enjoy uniform numbers. 

A condition commonly mistaken for OCD (Obsessive–compulsive disorder). This is one of the explanations for why people notice and look at a clock whenever the time is 11:11. It has an appearance that just pulls us in and sticks in our heads. This ties in with synchronicity which is another explanation behind our fascination with 11:11.

Synchronicity is when things that are completely unrelated and unimportant gain a measure of importance when they happen at the same time. These are events known as “meaningful coincidences”. 

Even though the events have no actual effect on each other, they gain meaning to us. So we see the time of 11:11 as something that has some special, almost magical, significance.

This kind of thinking is behind the idea that you should make a wish at 11:11. We feel that it is an almost magical time and can grant our wishes. It may not be true for you, but it does go towards giving the numbers some significance and value to others.

Every time you see the time you make a wish, and you focus on what you want to happen. You tie that to those numbers, so it really sticks in your heads.

There are still more beliefs behind the significance. Some beliefs are related to the idea of our spirit guides; our guardian angels. They believe that 11:11 has magical properties that allow our guardian angels to reach through to us and let us know something important. This is tied in to numerology in fact, the study of numbers and their significance.

In numerology the number 11 is important and what is known as a master number. Master numbers like 11 represent spirituality.

11 is also a number that represents increased awareness. It gives us a link to our inner self. So you can consider the number 11 as a sort of doorway in to our soul. It links us to our hidden desires and thoughts. It is a gateway to how we truly think and feel. Still some people consider 11:11 to be a glitch in the Matrix.

There is another school of thought that says when you stop to notice 11:11 you give significance to it. That it took your time means it is significant to you by default. Even though all you did is acknowledge the time, it has a significant effect. It causes you to reset your own inner clock and rhythm.

Though to be perfectly honest no one is quite sure which of these theories, if any, are true. 11:11 may not actually have any real significance at all. But there’s nothing wrong with that.
