PLEASE NOTE: this blog is aimed at those with some basic knowledge of western horoscope astrology. Marilyn Monroe's western style horoscope will be used in accordance with the supplied materials. The following supplied materials are to be used for learning purposes only by the viewer. I try to stay consistent with the use of color; I learned this concept from San Francisco astrologer Jayj Jacobs. Primary consideration goes to rulerships and natural house rulerships (and a natural house rulership takes place when a planet or luminary [Sun & Moon] is placed in a horoscope house that has the same assigned the zodiac sign ("house description") as the rulership zodiac sign of the planet or luminary placed in the horoscope house [and I use color to help explain this concept, as you will see in the handouts]).

Horoscope of Marilyn Monroe

Below is the horoscope from above with my notes concerning the priorities I like to look at . In my book ("Basic Principles of Horoscope Interpretation") I use a five step method of analysis when looking at a western horoscope chart. To keep it simple and basic, let's use a three step method since the other steps concern planetary/luminary affliction and house rulership definitions (and adding these two steps may complicate things, as others have been told me). For aspects used in (2) below, I really like Conjunctions, Sextiles, Squares, Trines, and Oppositions (with 5 degree orbs, to keep it simple). All the other aspects get consideration if the aspect involved is near exact in angularity (with a 1/2 degree orb) and/or a Personal Point is involved.  Below is my basic three step method applied with my conclusion at the end.

Sun Conjunction Mercury (in the 10th House of "career and responsibilities") is significant since we have a planetary rulership (Mercury in Gemini) in Conjunction with a Personal Point (the Sun). The midpoint of this Sun Conjunction Mercury placement is 08 degrees Gemini 36 minutes; this Conjunction forms a Sextile with the Ascendant (using the 5 degree orb rule). Sextiles represent "opportunities," the Ascendant represents "the environment," and Sun Conjunction Mercury may be interpreted as "the main focus of the individual may concern communications with others in some way." This combination ([Sun Conjunction Mercury] Sextile Ascendant) symbolizes into a planetary picture expression of "much opportunity in the environment for important communications with others in some way." Marilyn Monroe's first real job was reportedly writing for the school newspaper, and she would also be a part of advertisements for military drones used by military marksman to shoot at for target practice. Below is a photo of her used for this advertisement.

And yes, she would take advantage of her good looks with this advertisment to eventually communicate with others on the film screen in a very big way. Venus Conjunction Chiron (in the 9th House of "law or legal areas; international travel or international involvement") may represent "artwork (Venus) created with technology that is very advanced in nature" (Chiron). This is fascinating since Technicolor was the most advanced technology for film colorization during the time Marilyn Monroe got recognition in Hollywood, and Technicolor was legally required in all of Marilyn Monroe's contracts for film work as an actress. The Moon Square Saturn aspect (with the Moon in the 7th House of "relationships") may be indicative of the poor relationship Marilyn Monroe had with both "the mother-figure" (Moon) and "the father-figure" (Saturn); Square aspects represent "conflicts." Marilyn's father abandoned the family and Marilyn's mother would get committed to a psychiatric hospital. Moon Opposition Neptune AND Saturn Square Neptune appears to make this situation for having a solid family foundation much worst since Neptune represents "deception; disappointment." Marilyn Monroe was raped when she was a young girl in elementary school; this event may be represented by the aspect of Ascendant Sesquiquadrate Uranus. This is based on a "planetary picture" of Uranus ("shocks or surprises") being placed in the 8th House ("sexual activity") and forming a Sesquiquadrate ("stress that may affect one's health") with the Ascendant ("the environment"). Mercury Semi-Sextile Midheaven stresses "communications with others in some way" to be a part of Marilyn Monroe's "legacy" (Midheaven). Pluto Conjunction North Node (with Pluto in the 11th House of "friendships with others") may define "connections and separations with others (North Node) who are of a powerful and transforming nature (Pluto)." Pluto Semi-Sextile Ascendant may represent "transformation (Pluto) in the environment (Ascendant) that may be fortunate OR may not be healthy in some way (Semi-Sextile)." And yes, this is the same Ascendant placement that has a hard Sesquiquadrate aspect with Uranus in the 8th House; the 8th House can also represent "the house of death" or "cause of death" in addition to the interpretation of "sexual activity" (and note that Uranus can also represent "shocking events"). These two separate aspects applying to the Ascendant may indicate that Marilyn Monroe's associates (who were an important part of her environment) may have played some sort of a role in her death AND her sexual activity. The Mars Trine North Node Trine Saturn placement may indicate harmony with three Trine aspects, but here's the issue: Mars and Saturn do not get along with each other per compatibility, and the North Node is placed in the 12th House. Monroe was legally ordered to stay at a psychiatric hospital after discussing suicide with her psychiatrist; the North Node ("connections with others") in the 12th House of "required hospitalization or incarceration" may represent the psychiatric hospital connections of her psychiatrist. Mars Trine Saturn (applying in Trine to the North Node in the 12th House) may represent a "government action" (Mars Trine Saturn) that manifested in the form of an order of legal committment at the psychiatric facility (represented by the North Node in the 12th House). Venus (in the detriment sign of Aries) applying a Semi-Sextile to Uranus ("surprises") may define the stress (Semi-Sextile) endured by Marilyn due to her problems with relationships (Venus in the sign of Aries). Mars Semi-Square Midheaven may indicate "a legacy" (Midheaven) defined by "unhealthy stress" (Semi-Square) due to "activities of a sexual and/or secretive nature" (Mars in the 8th House). And yes, the 8th House is sometimes called "the house of death," and Mars in the 8th House can be defined as "activities of a secret nature."
