Big cities from Washington to Boston buttoned up on Sunday against the onslaught of a superstorm that could menace some 50 million people in the most heavily populated corridor in the nation, with forecasters warning New York could be in particular peril.
"The time for preparing and talking is about over," Federal Emergency Management Administrator Craig Fugate warned as Hurricane Sandy made its way up the Atlantic on a collision course with two other weather systems that could turn it into one of the most fearsome storms on record in the U.S. "People need to be acting now."
Airlines canceled more than 5,000 flights and Amtrak began suspending train service across the Northeast. New York and Philadelphia moved to shut down their subways, buses and trains Sunday night and announced that schools would be closed on Monday. Boston, Washington and Baltimore also called off school.
As rain from the leading edges of the hurricane began to fall over the Northeast, tens of thousands of people in coastal areas from Maryland to Connecticut were under orders to clear out Sunday. That included 50,000 in Delaware alone and 30,000 in Atlantic City, N.J., where the city's 12 casinos were forced by Gov. Chris Christie to shut down for only the fourth time in the 34-year history of legalized gambling there.
Sandy, a Category 1 hurricane with sustained winds of 75 mph as of Sunday afternoon, was blamed for 65 deaths in the Caribbean before it began churning up the Eastern Seaboard. It was expected to hook left toward the mid-Atlantic coast and come ashore late Monday or early Tuesday, most likely in New Jersey, colliding with a wintry storm moving in from the west and cold air streaming down from the Arctic.
Forecasters said the monster combination could bring close to a foot of rain, a potentially lethal storm surge and punishing winds extending hundreds of miles outward from the storm's center. It could also dump up to 2 feet of snow in Kentucky, North Carolina and West Virginia.
Louis Uccellini, environmental prediction chief for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, told The Associated Press that given Sandy's east-to-west track into New Jersey, the worst of the storm surge could be just to the north, in New York City, Long Island and northern New Jersey. By some estimates, the metropolitan area could get slammed with an 11-foot wall of water.

It's been raining here in Virginia for 2 days straight now. It not a heavy pour down rain, just a steady drizzle. Most low-level areas will be flood. Should be gone by Wednesday. ljwheat is right. It's just a weak storm and fear-porn. Flooding and inconvenience at best.
Not at all the dark cabal. Quatzlcotl has returned to earth and Gaia is releasing volumes of negative energy during this storm. Try to remain calm and go with it. Use your gifted feathers to help spread the light. The Dark Cabal cannot do anything and Obama and Romney have finally shut the f up and that alone is priceless! If you are in the affected areas please pay attention to the warnings. This is Gaias chance to halt us all in her tracks!

I wouldn't be surprised if this storm forces disclosure.
I've had a suspicion that our Galactic buddies have been holding things together for us with respect to seismic activity and weather. Been a lot of 6ish earthquakes going on lately. It's not inconceivable that our friends have magnetism based technology that can keep things under control.
Now simultaneously we have a superstorm , 7.7 earthquake and a tsunami that was expected to be worse than it actually was.
If the promise of disclosure has been broken again, this would be a good way to force the govt's hand. By stopping their intervention the "Family may be showing how much effect they are having.
And if Sandy does as expected, a call for assistance in getting things back on track would be a reasonable thing to do.

I live right in this things path right where the two storms are to meet..we have to think about the fact that we are about to loose power without heat with the tempature dropping.
Yes the media do hype up the storms, and sensationalise it...
HOWEVER....having been through cyclones myself in Australia, it really is important (and wise) to stock up on:
gas bbq/cooker
torches / lighting/ candles
recharge your mobile phone (as electricity could be out)
bags of ice
water in your bathtub (in case electricity goes down and water is unable to be pumped)
powdered milk
flour
etc.
I've been caught unawares in a cyclone before and thought the media were just getting all excited and scaring everyone - but it is good to have preparations made mostly because I was caught out (without electricity for 3 days - something I had never experienced before). I had candles and was able to get gas for cooking with, but if there are big queues of people wanting gas and supplies, these necessities may be off the shelves after the storm. Trucks also are not able to get into areas due to flooding so that means there's no food to get in the supermarkets for quite some time.
I'd take some heed and stock up (just to spare yourself being uncomfortable) but at the same time - wouldn't get too caught up in the media's hype. They seem to salivate with disasters.
Gee i wonder how we made it threw the last 200 years, and before that, and before that, we didn’t need help then why are we so helpless NOW????? " Hollywood" the less you have the more you know how to live. the more civil we become the less we know how to live and survive.
media feeds fear...it's great for ratings....catagory 1, 40mph winds...no big deal...don't believe it or you feed that energy
gusts to 70-power outages for weeks-what about the election-willbama handle it and be a hero? 10 inches of rain-massive flooding, maybe even into the NYC subways-steam pipes could fracture, 100s of miles of electrical lines-high powered
