Life-changing spiritual adventures are often part of an out-of-body experience. This is especially true of self- initiated out-of-body journeys because the explorers are prepared for their adventures. They often report an instant and dramatic change in their awareness, and their perception of the universe and themselves.Those who have had a profound out-of-body experience speak of an incredible acceleration of their personal evolution. This can be due to their expanded ability to obtain insights and knowledge, understand past life issues or overcome their fears.
At the very core of all transcendental and God consciousness experiences is a shift of awareness away from the physical body and its senses to the formless spiritual essence within us. Many refer to this profound spiritual experience as self-realization and or God realization. Out-of-body adventures provide a powerful opportunity to experience our spiritual essence and obtain the answers we seek. Today many are discovering that these profound experiences can be self initiated.
Profound Spiritual Experiences
'I experienced an emotional and spiritual explosion that led to two episodes of what you describe as out-of-body experiences. Both occurred while lying in bed, doing deep breathing meditation and moving downward in consciousness toward my subconscious self. My body started to vibrate and energy emanated from every pore of my body. At first I was filled with fear but I let myself continue. As the experience continued I was in a place I can only describe as the Mind of God. I say place, but there was no place or no time. I was in the mind of Jesus on the cross and Buddha and all the prophets and holy persons throughout time. I was able to feel all of the births, lives and deaths of humanity as if I were in an endless sea of souls. It was a place of endless, unconditional love pouring forth. No beginning, no end, just pure being and the now dimensions involved. I was able to put my arms (not the physical arms, but I don't know how else to express this) around my parents and love and forgive. I was able to forgive all and project nothing but love.'

'My out-of-body experience was in my search for God. I fell asleep but awakened again and felt a light and buzzing sensation. I then looked at my hand and felt it. My hand was real and solid yet without warmth. I moved away from my body and went to a bright, white room. I stood at the doorway and said 'Higher self now'. At first nothing much happened, so I screamed out in my mind 'Higher self now!' Suddenly I was like a rocket flying through lights and stars. My awareness was stretched across the universe. Knowledge Expansion
Many transformational experiences involve the acquisition of knowledge. During these experiences our ability to receive insights and knowledge is expanded far beyond our normal capacity. When we are out-of-body, our minds will often manifest an image of knowledge that is comfortable and understandable to us. This can be represented as a book, a library or a wise being.
'. . .I feel a vibrational energy and float from my body. I walk through the door and find myself in a new environment. Before me I see a pillar of light that is about four feet high. I feel the intensity of the light and am drawn to it. As I move closer, I can see a large book at the top of the column. I move even closer and can feel a powerful energy radiating from the book. I instinctively know that it is the Book of Knowledge. I open the book and feel a surge of knowledge flowing into me. This is difficult to put into words, for I feel overwhelmed by a flood of pure knowledge entering me. Although I can't absorb it all, it is comforting to know it is available to me.'

Layers of Energy and Color
Out-of-body explorers often describe the perception of moving through layers of energy and color. Since the universe is a multi-dimensional continuum, all movement of consciousness is interdimensional in nature. I believe that the reported layers of color are our mind's interpretation of the various energy levels or frequencies of the universe.
'Several months ago I did an out-of-body technique as I fell asleep. I was very focused on finding answers and having a spiritual experience. One night I fell asleep normally and was shaken awake by what I thought was a train running through my bedroom. I tried to move but I couldn't. I then thought about knowing God.
