the gap theory

In the bible, we can trace the geneologies and find that it is talking of a world that was created some 6000 years ago.Needless to say, this is amusing to the contemporary scientist who says that even for a planet to cool down to a solid, it might take a million years. It is said that the light that exists on the surface of the sun begun 1 million years ago at the centre of the sun. Then the earth itself is said to be over 4 billion years old!Some christian could nolonger swallow this discrepancy. Some did notice that Genesis 1:1 do say:"In the beginning, God created the heavens and earth. Now the earth was formless and empty..."They then hammered in some arbitrarily long period of time between the first and the second sentence.Indead the bible doesn't specify when this beginning was nor does it necessarily say that the creation proceeded immediately.This is the gap theory. It goes ahead and say that before Adam was created, this world was inhabited by angels. The leader was Lucifer himself whom they say would latter rebeal agains Yahweh causing him to destroy the earth. So the earth became desolate and formless for some arbitrarily long period of time.Do this theory make sense?
