by Adam Elenbaas, 8 12 2014 ~Jupiters entrance into Leo and this past Leo full moon’s square to Saturn in Scorpio has brought the “death of celebrity” archetype into collective awareness with the passing of beloved actor and Comedian, Robin Williams.

While it’s easy and human and necessary to grieve and want to discuss the tragedy of his passage, it’s important that we not focus solely on the loss of his death but also look at the transformation of the soul.

Suicide is a taboo, scorpionic subject that provokes one of our deepest attachments…the attachment and privileging of life, light, and consciousness over death, soul, and the unconscious.

In his book “Suicide and the Soul,” James Hillman once wrote that life or case history is not the same as soul history, which has a life in death as well as life. Hillman demanded that we learn to respect the mystery of suicide rather than jumping to selfish knee jerk reactions.

We are too quick to see depression and suicide through the lens of our own fears, too quick to imagine suicide narrowly, to monotheize and point the selfish finger explanantion, or to talk about needing to raise awarenesses of all kinds. Can we not imagine that this talk is a kind of idle gossip during the climax of a theatrical production of soul? Have we lost our love for tragedy? Is our imagination that much of an optimism bumper sticker that we can only appreciate scripted stories about heroic triumph?

Can we not imagine that all our talk about raising consciousness and fighting depression is an imaginary refusal to go WITH soul. Lets consider that Soul is something like imagination and intimacy combined…and our deepest failure in relationships is thus the inability to travel with soul beyond the ideas of our sunny side “life.”

The leo to scorpio complex asks us to imagine someone’s specialness and shine not in the wake of death (or the memories of life) alone, but also in the souls imagination in death.

Celebrities, especially those who played characters as optimistic as Robin Williams did, play on our lust for not only sunshine but also eternal light. It’s of course archetypal that such figures have tremendous depths and pains that we struggle to accept and celebrate as much as the outward shine. And yet deaths like these are calls to examine all these dynamics and to do so without trite simplifications about sickness and health, light and dark, etc.

Prayer: what good amidst these, oh me oh life? Answer: that you exist and identity. That the powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse. (R. Williams, Dead Poets Society)

He is gone but his light is not out, his work will continue in his many movies throughout time.He has been in my dreams a lot his year and I didn't know why except I watch a lot of his movies and will continue to do so. He was in my dreams last night as I thought of him from the news. He was truly one of a kind. Many of us have had bouts of Depression in our life times as this world is a hard place or school and our mission is a difficult one. May this be a lesson to us all. You – you alone will have the stars as no one else has them… In one of the stars I shall be living. In one of them I shall be laughing. And so it will be as if all the stars were laughing, when you look at the sky at night… You – one you – will have the stars that can laugh.

  • He has shown so much light, too bad his light has gone out.

    •            'Gone out'??? Simply not true, Darkstar... Light Is Eternal!!!

      • What I meant is that he died.

        • I know what you meant, Darkstar... & my point is: Death is an illusion! ;-)

  • Great tribute. I felt the same way about Robin Williams leaving us as I felt when John Lennon left us: shock and sadness mixed together. He was definitely a lightworker.
