After years of observation I come to the conclusion that there are a couple of spiritual drugs being used to get high. Some are of Chemical character, like Ayahuasca and chemicals similar to those produced in the Pineal gland. Chemical drugs are linked to a more material level.
The hierarchy of human needs is fairly mirrored in Maslow´s pyramid (see here: http://www.simplypsychology.org/maslow.html). Humans need also immaterial references, spirituality is one of them. Thus the range of spiritual drugs is of course transcending the chemical world.
A next one is Leadership. I have seen for many years people dreaming of being leaders. The truth is, that many want to be leaders, but only a few have the skills and character of filling in that position. Standing in front of many people, teaching them and being known to many is a big temptation, and many would sell their grandma for being in higher hierarchical positions like leader.
Next one is being a Teacher or public distributor of knowledge. It is similar to Leadership - only a few have skills and character of being a real teacher. Many teachers love their subject more than the people they try to reach. A real teacher must love people even in their strangenesses.
Next one is Special knowledge not everybody has. By this he can feel as specialist apart from the ordinary rest. Ans specialist sounds great in many ears giving hope to get acknowledged as special. Spiritual forums are full of such special people - some are highly educated in sacred geometry, others in symbolism, chakras, meditation. Sad, that illusion has led some of these people to believe those who share not the level of knowledge they demand are simple or stupid.
Next one is lingering in Ritualistic maneuvers. They feel home in rituals and not seldom have extented their clinging on rituals into Manipulation, of course they would call it "for a good sake", but it is manipulation giving the illusion of Influence, Meaningfulness and Importance.
And a final one I´d like to mention is Connecting to unearthly entities. Some look for Angels or Archangels, Spiritual leaders, Commanders of ships or stations, in more dramatic cases for Demons, Fallen Angels and Satan. Thus they hope getting transcendental access to new or other forms of energy and thrive.
When I got aware on all that is happening in and around myself I saw that I do not really need such spiritual drugs as essential input in my life. I feel really content with the insight that I do not need any references to 1. Bussiness, 2. Military and 3. Profil neurosis when it comes to spiritual connotations in my life. I rather have come to a simple and easy conclusion: I embrace my being human with all limits and boundaries. And since I know that all in universe is interconnected and mirroring each other - depending from perception and awareness - I have discoverst letting go much more effective than any dream of improving myself and others...
