Click https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eF9670vcXhM for "Purple Rain." Prince definitely lands a spot in terms of creation of important eras in music. This was due to the formation of the Parents Music Resource Center (PMRC). The PMRC was an organization that was started after Tipper Gore (founder of the organization) claimed Prince's "Let's Pretend We're Married" was the song that inspired her to conceive a rating system for recordings due to issues with lyrics. Lack of this system may require parents to sit down and talk with their kids about why some music really sucks, and instead of having a nanny state to do that for us with a "rating" system..

Hence, Prince is responsible for creating music so outrageous that he pissed off a Gore. And Tipper responded with the use of influence to start placement of warning labels on records. I remember records that had "letter" labels that included "V" for violent and "O" for occult; Twisted Sister's "We're Not Gonna Take It" was given a "V" for the potential anti-authority meaning of the song (GIVE ME A BREAK!!!!)

  • I heard that Prince had a "no name" because somebody wanted to sue him or something (or take him to court) so his just BECAME a person with NO NAME and they couldn't DO anything to him!  (One way to beat the system!)

    • Wasnt he called "sign" or "squiggle" .. or something?

    • I noticed that Prince removed the names off of a lot of guitars, and one of them I recognized when he played at a Super Bowl halftime. It was an '86 Stratocaster with a maple neck, and yes, that is a very good guitar. Japanese-made Stratocasters had great necks, and there was a Jeff Beck Model made while Japan made them. That particular model was designed for high volume rock, and at low volume it sounds just as pretty and bluesy without the noise.
