I would say that this is possible. Just as when sand is used with snow in Americas for gripping of cars... there is eventually a melt and the snow looks brownish red. The particles of the sand do blend in with the snow and give it a different color. Also, a dry leaf or moss can be put into water... and if allowed to sit or mix with it... will give the water a greenish color.
