REP. BOB GOODLATTE (R-VA): Professor Turley, the constitution, the system of separated powers is not simply about stopping one branch of government from usurping another. It's about protecting the liberty of Americans from the dangers of concentrated government power. How does the president's unilateral modification of act of Congress affect both the balance of power between the political branches and the liberty interests of the American people?
JONATHAN TURLEY: Thank you, Mr. Chairman. The danger is quite severe. The problem with what the president is doing is that he's not simply posing a danger to the constitutional system. He's becoming the very danger the Constitution was designed to avoid. That is the concentration of power in every single branch.
This Newtonian orbit that the three branches exist in is a delicate one but it is designed to prevent this type of concentration. There is two trends going on which should be of equal concern to all members of Congress. One is that we have had the radical expansion of presidential powers under both President Bush and President Obama. We have what many once called an imperial presidency model of largely unchecked authority. And with that trend we also have the continued rise of this fourth branch. We have agencies that are quite large that issue regulations. The Supreme Court said recently that agencies could actually define their own or interpret their own jurisdiction.

President Obama’s repeated use of presidential powers is causing a tough problem — his own supporters now expect him to use it to achieve everything they want.
From immigration to the minimum wage, congressional Democrats and liberal activists this week urged Mr. Obama to declare an end run around Capitol Hill, assert executive authority and make as much progress as he can on the expansive agenda he laid out for his second term.

A day after Mr. Obama denounced income inequality, progressive lawmakers said he should take the lead by issuing an executive order requiring all federal contractors to pay workers more than the minimum wage. A dozen lawmakers and immigration activists held a news conference outside the Capitol on Thursday asking him to halt all deportations as a down payment on an eventual immigration bill.
“To not use his executive authority is not just unstrategic; it is cruel,” said Tania Unzueta, a strategist with the National Day Laborer Organizing Network.
On immigration, Mr. Obama raised expectations when, after years of denying he had such powers, he issued a policy last year saying he no longer would deport young illegal immigrants, the “Dreamers” who were brought to the U.S. as minors by their parents and are considered the most sympathetic cases. He said he was using prosecutorial discretion.
More than two dozen House Democrats have written a letter to Mr. Obama saying he can expand that authority to encompass nearly all 11 million illegal immigrants.
Presidents regularly claim broad powers, and Mr. Obama’s own list of assertions is long. He committed the U.S. to military action in Libya without congressional authorization, he has tweaked interpretations to education, welfare and health care laws, and he has tested the limits of his recess appointment powers in a case that is pending before the Supreme Court.
Mr. Obama’s base, though, wants to see more — as he learned last week on a trip to the West Coast, where he was met with hecklers.

You know what gets me: Only 6% of the people approve of Congress, WHY DON'T WE GET RID OF THESE PEOPLE?! I thought that this country was supposed to be ruled by WE THE PEOPLE; well, obviously, it ISN'T.

A bartender in D.C. once said that Washington D.C. is the city of three P's: policemen, politicians, and prostitutes. And all three "P's" are mutually inclusive; the same D.C. politician receiving horizontal refreshment from a D.C. police officer is a prostitute for another D.C. politician who orders the D.C. police (under his command) to murder a reporter for a story about his past, and the D.C. police are rewarded with D.C. based paid-for company (that provide horizontal refreshment).

I helped a DC cop one night-not as a prostitute- but he was walking around the front door of the Supreme Court building about 10 pm and i happened by at the same time on my bike-I used to cruise around the mall -pop into the Smithsonian and the National Museum-and two thugs were walking toward him menacingly so I hopped off my bike like superman and made noise with my feet so the thugs turned around, saw me and walked in the other direction and the DC cop and I nodded at one another-good cop bad cop
I was going to spend my summer vacation in Washington D.C. with my nephew, who did secret work with the Marines at the Pentagon. I thought it would be quite a trip, partying with my nephew and his fiance in the same bars where the Israelis (with American citizenship and were probably employed as lobbyists) blackmailed our elected officials with photos of them with the prostitutes they hired for horizontal refreshment. Probably under-aged ones at that.
Unfortunately (or fortunately) a good source with connections warned me that I was probably not very well liked in D.C. at all, so I went to New Mexico instead. And except for quitting smoking, it may have been one of the best decisions in my life concerning some personal questions I had.
