Some of the planets are in the habitable zone.

Our galaxy is looking far more crowded. NASA has confirmed a bonanza of 715 newly discovered planets outside our solar system.

Scientists using the planet-hunting Kepler telescope have nearly doubled the number of planets discovered in the galaxy. The figure is now about 1,700. Twenty years ago, astronomers had not found any planets circling stars other than our sun.

Astronomers used a new confirmation technique to come up with the largest batch of planets announced at one time. NASA made the announcement Wednesday.

All the new planets are in systems like ours where multiple planets circle a star. Four of those new planets are in habitable zones where it is not too hot or not cold.

  • And here I thought they'd be too busy with Project Bluebleam

    • maybe they just invented the story-I don't think they can actually get a visual of the planets except the space telescope fpocuses on a star and and  look at what transits across then they calculate the size of the 'orb' with the distance of that star and say it's a planet within the habitable zone or not. Stars light years away-1 light year=about 6 trillion miles! I'm sure you know this I just like to ponder-1 parsec=19.2 trillion miles-wee humans spying out into the cosmos with a wee spyglass
