Ok now that i looked at the article.
Yeah that research was done in respect to evidence of mass extinction events on earth that occur every 26 million years or so. If you look around there is reference to an idea of our suns long lost twin,way out there in the oort cloud,a massive object that throws comets and asteroids at us............last event was about 5 million years ago apparently,next one due in about 21 million years.

Planet X/ Nibiru/ whatever is supposed to have an orbit that crosses between us and Mars.
This object has a wide orbit that doesn't intersect us at any close point.
Rumors of Planet X probably derived from older research of this object and blown out of proportion.
