There are problems, though, if we allow media to act as a criminal investigation department, i.e. like a part of an executive arm of the government. Let me illustrate 3 of them:
1. ) Media is under no obligation to report becuse of 'freedom of media'. Infact it is not even under obligation to be truthful! This allows media to selectively report and omit. This slective reporting can create a false picture of a crime scene. For instance, what if a cabinet minister was involved in the illegal business but the media chose to omit?( perharps by being bribed). Problem realy surface when media systematically omit information of a particular type, for example it can omit every case except where a Jew was found guilty of child trafficking, creating the false impression that it is actually the Jews that are perpetuating the crime and therefore we must put a tight immigration policy against the Jews!!
2. ) The employees of the media, together with the media itself can themselves engage in criminal activities. When they are got red handed, they will simply claim that they are working under cover!
3.) The likes of the fourth amendment of US constitution can contradict the first amendment, if the former amendment is applied to media. In other words we can, and we must seek to constrain the freedom of government. But according to the first amendment this means that the media must never work like the government.
