dreams that ring a bell

There is a kind of dream that I am finding it hard to understand. You dream of a scenario and then you find that that scenario is farmiliar. When you get up, you neither remember the scenario nor understand why the scenario was farmiliar.There is also another one I may recall the scenario but I don't understand why I tended to recall something while dreaming. I might dream say visiting someone and within the dream, it is quite farmiliar that the person had invited me. When you wake up, I don't remember the dream wherein I was invited by the person. I only remember the dream of visiting the person and that during the dream, I was farmiliar with an earlier invitation.
