My understanding of "Ascension" is that everyone will have ascended by 2014.
There are people who will chose not to ascend for there own reasons... (free will)
Also you dont have to do nothing to Ascend you just have to be on Gaia on 2014 to Ascend (Acording to TOLEC)

It is probably true you won't have to do much to ascend, but there will certainly be much you can NEVER do, in order to manifest the ascension.
