I'll be quick about this, I'm currently writing a novel that centers around beings from another world that ultimately come to Earth only to discover that their ancestors have already been to earth due to an unknown occurrence of their then experimental jump drive. I've been struggling with the idea of how explain the time gap between the two races as the experimental ship vanished approx 200 years ago in their time but their influence on Earth began at about 6000 or more years of Our time, i.e. they started the first civilization and so on with Sumeria and all that jazz.

I'm not a quantum physicist so i can't necessarily explain the nature of time travel/parallel universes as i want both planets to be in the same time stream because naturally the protagonists eventually make it back to their home world but i was thinking that perhaps the time scales could shift. I.E. One year in the protagonist's world would equal 5 or 10 years in a human scale or something like that. Does anybody out there have any thoughts on how i can solve this quandary?

My protagonists are about the size of the Na'vi when compared to humans and are generally heartier and stronger and i like the idea that they would come to a world where humans are so fleeting in life comparatively that they would almost feel like gods. It makes for a great backdrop to the conflict that occurs afterward.

    • I'm a novelist, albeit an unknown novelist. The book I'm currently working on is the second book i've ever done but in this day an age of technology I've been entertaining the idea of podcasting my book once I finish it. I'm just trying to deal with the problems of space/time travel without having to get a masters in quantum physics, you know how that goes.
  • Thanks for the help. I've always been fascinated by time/space/parallel dimensions but I never actually thought of having two timelines syncing back up. I can certainly find some way to incorporate these ideas, maybe combine the physical aspects with the cultural aspects.

This is why i love writing, I get to create my own universe, circles within circles!
    Thx.
