  There is some fooly in post ww11 'security map' in Europe. In a normal world, security is usually sought out between neighbours. Two countries adjacent to each other, eg Finland and Russia, create bilateral relationship that is based on security, political and economic interests between the two countries. There is absolutely no need to involve any other third country with regard to issues pertaining to the two countries. This is how Russia-China relationship unfolds. So China can immensely benefit from Russia without being dragged into conflicts that actually are not relevant to China's national interests. Unlike China, Europe is extremely imprudent in this matter! After all China shares a longer border with Russia and if the latter country requires a military alliance to handle it, China, not any European country, would be its worst victim!
  
  A bilateral relationship between Finland and Russia would allow Finland to benefit from Russia regardless of the bilateral relationship between Russia and US or between Russia and UK etc. Finland would create a foreign policy that further its own security and economic interests rather than one that further military interests of a distant, irrelevant country whose interest in the region can only be to extend its 'punching arm' way beyond its border! Taking a look at the global map at a glance, it is absurd to say that US is the 'leader in Europe' who dictates the latters foreign policies pertaining to its own security! It is incredibly humiliating to Europe, but it has been so cleverly fashioned as something that Europe should be proud of!
