If the firmament is so expensive to maintain and demands constant gold supply, is it really worth it and how viable would it be for modern earth standards? How plausible would it be for an advanced civilization to have the ability to synthesize gold or work with alternative materials for that purpose?"

Well, there are certain frequencies of solar codes that prolong a being's form life expression and there are other solar codes, that limit it's duration...
If we observe ancient records, such as the Sumerian King's list, we can see the lifespans of Kings (Earth humans) before the flood and after the flood....The common denominator being the firmament's presence and regrettable destruction...the effects were and are, obvious...A law of cause and effect, not a divine punishment.
Sumerian Kings List (Antediluvian Kings) shows eight kings who ruled before the Great Flood. The lifespans and reigns are extremely long, often in the tens of thousands of years.
Such as the following selected few here:
Alulim (1st king of Eridu) – ruled for 28,800 years.
En-men-lu-ana – ruled for 43,200 years.
Total reign of all pre-flood kings: 241,200 years.
Moreover, the firmament mimics the inner world's crystaline sun upon life forms, animal and sentient species, both...Plants too...
It allows the vivifying frequencies and removes the life limiting ones....Also, the devas that operate within nature are rendered much calmer and more satisfied and so the weather is less prone to extremes...the land is less subject to upheaval, than without a firmament..the wind lesser extreme.
For a water world, the hermetic axiom of; "as above, so below," definitely applies, with the waters above on clear a display, as the waters below...Albeit, the water above is ice, in fact..
That is why, all fully conscious worlds, wether 4D/5D, or 4D/4D, or higher, use the planetary firmament technologies....
Most live within a planet and some remain on the surface, guarding the temple processes, globally...If that function goes, through neglect, or arrogance, then the planet falls down in dimensional viabilities...One could suggest that firmament layers define the status of a planet and likewise, the lack of....
Likewise, the vivifying light within any mothership, or scoutship, artificially mimics those beneficial frequencies, also..
Technically, the human form can live indefinitely and when we hear of Pleiadians possessing 1000 years, or Sirians possessing 2000 years, these are choices....If either wanted to, they could live for much longer, but choose to express a given mission/role, for a defined duration...The Solarians will be allocated 3,600 years per life, as a reward for the fall and the rise, again....
Also, the receptivity of the light encoded filamaments in DNA determines how the life span develops, and what absolutely secures long life, is the protection of a firmament....on any advanced world in cosmos....Gold is used and can be recycled, as it falls to the ground in rain water (not soluable, of course) and therefore can be deliberately collected and transported again, to those heights at 15,000 feet and 35,000 feet, geo-gravitically...The Atlanteans decided to halt this service and suffered for it..and since those times, we have had no replacement firmament...
but that will change..

Well, the "substance" that Enki pleaded for and failed to receive in sufficient amounts, was gold, which as a dust form, would normally be locked within the ice of the firmament layers, to limit radiations which are absorbed into the surface of the atmosphere....A high density and noble metal, which does not oxidise...Only the beneficial radiations arrive..which aid a longer life expression...and why Enki asked the ruling Earth empire of the pre-flood world, namely Atlantis, for help in providing both gold and active Earth guardians, to maintain the water temples placed at nodal points around the planet, keeping the firmament layers in place.....And because that attention and that substance/element was not forthcoming, the entire structure fell from the sky and added billions of gallons of water to the flood, which was also caused by the glacier meltwaters, due to increased warming....a warming period which followed the end of the Younger Dryas deep freeze....So the flood was caused by the stubborn negative reactions to Enki's pleading and caused a major nibiru (an Akkadian word for transition) between the pleistocene epoch and the current holocene epoch, around 9,700 BCE...
Of course, Atlantis and the entire (Atlas) global map was flooded and also subject to a massive volcanism, as the plates came under pressures...
So the flood was caused by human ignorance of the need to possess a firmament layer, in order to cultivate the good order of nature....Maybe modern humanity could learn from this lesson..and why our forthcoming star nation, Solaris, will re-establish the Earth's firmament (and those of Venus, Mars and Pax) and the sacred practice of planetary guardianship..in a 4th density, 5th dimensional expression..

Enki wanted humanity to serve as proper Earth guardians, maintaining globe-wide water temple rituals and also, he wanted gold, that element, which, as a dust, was locked and used within the ice of the firmament....It was not provided them by haughty Atlantis and the rest became pre-history, as it were......Late epoch Atlantis did not possess the same sense of spiritual duty, as their earlier epoch iteration did. It went bad, greedy and corrupt, turning dark..and failed to maintain the good order of nature, on behalf of the surface Earth.
