“And the ark rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, upon the mountains of Ararat.”
— Genesis 8:4, KJV
Is Noah’s Ark Really Being Found in Turkey?
A new investigation is generating renewed interest in one of history’s greatest archaeological mysteries: the possible discovery of Noah’s Ark in eastern Turkey.
The video examines the latest research surrounding the Durupınar formation, a large, boat-shaped geological structure near Üzengili in Ağrı Province, Turkey, approximately 18 miles (29 kilometers) south of Mount Ararat.
Researchers have recently conducted core drilling at the site, collecting samples from deep within the formation. Some samples have reportedly been taken from depths approaching 60 feet. Scientists are now examining the material for evidence that could help determine whether the formation is simply a natural geological structure—or something far more intriguing.
The Dimensions of Noah’s Ark
According to Genesis 6:15, God instructed Noah to build the Ark with these dimensions:
300 cubits long × 50 cubits wide × 30 cubits high.
Using a cubit of approximately 20.6 inches, those biblical measurements convert to:
- 300 cubits = approximately 515 feet long
- 50 cubits = approximately 86 feet wide
- 30 cubits = approximately 52 feet high
That means the biblical Ark would have been an enormous vessel—approximately 515 feet long, 86 feet wide and 52 feet high.
Interestingly, researchers investigating the Durupınar formation have pointed to dimensions and proportions that they say deserve further investigation.
The proposed site itself is approximately 515 feet (157 meters) in length, although measurements and interpretations of the formation vary, and the structure's identification as a ship remains disputed.
What Are Researchers Finding?
The latest investigation involves drilling into the formation and analyzing samples from beneath the surface. Researchers are looking for evidence such as ancient organic material, possible wood, unusual layers, cavities, and signs of human activity.
Pottery fragments and other archaeological material discovered in the surrounding region are also being investigated.
The big question is whether these discoveries represent evidence of an ancient vessel—or whether they can be explained by the area's natural geology.
At this point, Noah's Ark has not been scientifically confirmed to have been found. The Durupınar formation has been debated for decades, with some researchers arguing that it could represent the remains of the biblical Ark while others maintain that it is a natural geological formation.
Nevertheless, the new drilling and laboratory analysis could provide additional information about what lies beneath the surface.
If the biblical dimensions are correct—300 cubits, or roughly 515 feet, in length—the Ark would have been an enormous structure. And now, researchers are drilling into a mysterious 515-foot-long formation near Mount Ararat to find out what is actually buried inside.
Where is the investigation?
Durupınar Formation

Approximately 18 miles (29 km) south of Mount Ararat
Absolutely. The construction instructions for Noah's Ark are found primarily in Genesis 6:14–16. Here they are in a clear format:
Noah's Ark — Biblical Construction Instructions
Genesis 6:14
“Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch.”
Construction material:
- Gopher wood
- The Ark was to contain rooms/compartments
- It was to be waterproofed inside and outside with pitch
Genesis 6:15
“And this is the fashion which thou shalt make it of: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits.”
Dimensions:
- Length: 300 cubits ≈ 515 feet
- Width: 50 cubits ≈ 86 feet
- Height: 30 cubits ≈ 52 feet
Genesis 6:16
“A window shalt thou make to the ark, and in a cubit shalt thou finish it above; and the door of the ark shalt thou set in the side thereof; with lower, second, and third stories shalt thou make it.”
This gives us several additional construction details:
- A window
- The window/opening was associated with one cubit
- One door, located in the side
- Three levels/stories
- Lower
- Second
- Third
Put together as a blueprint
ARK
Length: 300 cubits → ~515 ft
Width: 50 cubits → ~86 ft
Height: 30 cubits → ~52 ft
Construction:
- Gopher wood
- Internal rooms/compartments
- Pitch inside
- Pitch outside
- Window
- Door in the side
- Three stories/decks
Then Genesis 6:19–20 gives instructions concerning the animals that would enter the Ark, and Genesis 6:21 instructs Noah to bring food for himself, his family, and the animals.
One interesting thing is that Genesis actually provides enough information to make a basic proportional model of the Ark, even though it doesn't give detailed plans for the framing, ribs, beams, or exact shape of the hull.
