The Trump administration is working closely with the FBI to unravel the mysterious disappearance of ten scientists and government researchers working on advanced projects.
“In light of the recent and legitimate questions about these troubling cases, and President [Donald] Trump’s commitment to the truth, the White House is actively working with all relevant agencies and the FBI to holistically review all of the cases together and identify any potential commonalities that may exist,” White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt wrote on X, on Friday.
“No stone will be unturned in this effort, and the White House will provide updates when we have them,” Leavitt said.
Leavitt’s confirmation came a day after President Trump himself said the White House would begin an investigation.
The President told reporters he had “just left a meeting on that subject,” and that he hoped the disappearances are “random.”
“We’re going to know in the next week and a half,” he said.
Ten scientists have disappeared or died in strange circumstances in recent years. All worked in advanced aerospace or nuclear research.
One of them was Air Force Maj. Gen. William “Neil” McCasland, who vanished at the end of February, according to the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office in New Mexico.
He had previously served as the head of research at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.
He also worked at the Pentagon as the director, space acquisition in the Office of the Secretary of the Air Force and then as director of special programs, Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics.
He disappeared from his home during a roughly one-hour window while his wife went to the doctor.
His prescription medicine, glasses and phone were still in the house, but his hiking books, wallet and .38 revolver were gone.
Also in February, astrophysicist Carl Grillmair of the California Institute of Technology was shot dead outside his home. He worked on missions related to space telescopes.
