Potency, Power and Productivity
This is a week with incredible potential for change. It begins on Monday 11/10 when aggressive Mars joins potent Pluto, which is sort of like the Hell’s Angels combining forces with the Mafia.
These two intense planets meet in hard-nosed Capricorn where sensitivity is set aside to focus on taking care of business. All three symbols can represent ruthlessness, yet also provide a sense of well-defined urgency that helps us to achieve our goals. Mars cuts through clutter and Pluto extracts the fat of sentimentality to get down to brass tacks.
Together, they’re as tough and efficient as a contract killer, a skilled surgeon or a loan officer in a low income neighborhood.
Happily, this dark imagery also represents a galvanization of the will to concentrate our efforts in the precise areas where they can do us the most good.
Cutting out the clutter of too many ideas and plans by setting priorities is an excellent way to increase efficiency. Instead of cringing in the face of this scarily dangerous symbolism (and projecting its maleficence on others), this is a time to find our inner assassin, sharpen his blade and apply it where we need to make critical changes.
When action is focussed like a laser beam we can burn away obstacles without producing collateral damage. Clarity of intention, careful planning and controlled application of will ensure that these powerful energies are combined for constructive use.
There is a misconception that power is inherently evil. Yes, abusive application of it is harmful, but loving hearts and idealistic minds need its force to turn their best intentions into reality.
Mars conjunct Pluto in Capricorn is about the precise and purposeful application of power as an instrument for change. Would you rather cede its potency to others or use it to take effective action of your own choosing? Besides, this Mars-Pluto connection is only this week’s first step in a new direction. It’s about alignment and discipline, but the second shoe falls on Wednesday when Mars encounters shocking Uranus in a tense right angle square.
This radical and rebellious aspect is known for volatility and anti-authoritarian impulses. Following convention and adhering to rules may be more difficult during this tumultuous week. This seems to be completely opposite to the narrowness of the Mars-Pluto conjunction, a difference that could increase tension and the likelihood of explosive events and emotions.
At their worst the contrast between Plutonian control and Uranian chaos can widen cracks along cultural and personal fault lines that result in individual and institutional breakdowns.
However, outcomes depend upon consciousness, so what we bring to the table determines the quality of the meal that we get to eat.
When order and independence are perceived as irresolvably different repression leads to rebellion. Yet when order in the forms of purpose and personal responsibility is present innovation and freedom follow. The alignment of the planets of desire (Pluto) and action (Mars) in Capricorn is not designed to inhibit spontaneity but to bring us to such a sharp edge of effectiveness that we are capable of instantly adapting to or initiating change.
Competence feeds innovation and we increase our chances of freeing ourselves from old obstacles and break through to new roads of experience. Tension may be high this week, yet these cosmic forces offer great rewards when we learn how to make force and freedom allies in the pursuit of our most meaningful goals.
