CHAPTER XLIII

                                                                                         CONCLUSION OF THE LUNAR WORKS

Having reduced MARA, to cosmic dust the father of the three classical Furies, I then had to bravely face the secondary beasts of the abyss.

The day was ending slowly; the delicious air of the night invited the living beings that inhabit the face of the earth to rest from their fatigue, and I only cared about sustaining the battles on the road and the things worthy of compassion that my memory will write without mistake.

Oh ineffable Muses! Oh high Divine ingenuity! Come to my aid, Jupiter, venerable Father of the Divines and of the humans! Inspire me so that my style does not detract from the nature of the matter.

My deep sleep was interrupted by a thunder so loud that I shuddered like a man who is violently awakened; I got up and, looking around me, fixed my eyes to recognize the place where I was; I saw myself in a lonely house by the dark road.

Sitting in a crude armchair by the window from which the steep path could well be contemplated, I then evoked times gone by...

Certainly in other ages I had been there in the mansion of the abyss and before the same road...

None of this seemed new to me; I understood that I was recapitulating mysteries; Getting up from my chair, I opened the old door of that house and left walking slowly ... slowly down  the lonely road ...

At a single glance, and looking across a space as far away as is possible for the penetration of spiritual sight, I saw that sad, devastated and gloomy place...

The floor was damp and I had to stop abruptly in front of a certain electric cable lying on the ground...

A copper wire loaded with high voltage? What a horror! ... and I was about to step on it ...

"It is preferable to die being free, than to live while in prison." Thus cried the voice of silence in the night of mystery...

And I, who was alarmed in those precise moments trying to back off, felt comforted.

I advanced resolutely through those SUBLUNAR places along the tortuous abyssal path...

Horrible way between the dreadful entrails of the pale Moon; mysterious path of the past great cosmic day ... How many memories do you bring back to me! ...

Ah yes! I was active in the previous MAHAMVANTARA and lived among the Selenite of the Lunar World...

Now that old Lunar World is a corpse and of the Selenite not even their bones remain...

Deep reflections terribly moved the most intimate fibers of my soul as I silently walked along that submerged path...

Meanwhile my planetary body here on Earth, lay in deep rest...

Is it rare for the soul to escape from the physical body during meditation?

Dream? No! ... I stopped dreaming for a long time ... those who awaken consciousness no longer dream...

SELF-AWARENESS? This is a different faculty and I have it because I am very dead...

OBJECTIVE CONSCIOUSNESS? It is obvious that if I did not have it, I could not inform my beloved readers about life in the superior worlds...

Studies? ... Yes and I do them outside my physical body during Samadhi.

However, let us return to our story dear reader and forgive this small, but important digression.

The steep lunar path, turning surprisingly to the left, penetrated into certain very picturesque hills...

In them I saw something like a national park on Sunday; a brindle assemblage of human creatures seemed to delightfully enjoy the meadow...

For the amusement and entertainment of many, some street vendors came and went here, there and over there selling colored balloons...

Living symbol of profane life, that's how I understood it; However, it is obvious that I wanted to live all that with intensity...

I was very absorbed in all this, contemplating the crowds of always, when suddenly, here is something unusual and uncommon happens; It seemed to me as if time really stopped for a moment ...

In those moments of terror a bloodthirsty wolf emerges from the undergrowth, fiercely and with a wicked gaze trying in vain to grab its prey; before him flee from the merciless feline Grim Reaper some cackling chickens ... Extraordinary hidden symbols: Poultry, cowardly, cowardly, timid. Bloodthirsty, cruel, ruthless wolf...

Dread! Terror! Fright! ... Human sub-lunar states of human infra-consciousness and I who had died in myself ..., I was unaware of the existence of those animals within my own atomic infernos...

Fortunately, never in the hard struggle did I throw my Holy Pike; Thanks to my Divine Mother Kundalini I have been able to exceed many in strength and skill with the spear...

The main abyssal demons having already fallen, vile representations of my subhuman defects, epically concluded my lunar labors by slaying many other infernal beasts with the holy pike.

It goes without saying that I had to collect very rich spoils of war after many bloody battles...

I want to refer with great emphasis to those many precious gems of my own consciousness embedded between the deformed abysmal bodies.

The last part of the work was completely atomic in character; it is not at all easy to expel evil intelligences from their nuclear habitats.

This is certainly what is meant by turning black water into white.

Now such atoms have become marvelous vehicles for certain luminous intelligences.

Magnificent sparks capable of informing us about the activities of the secret enemy...

One night of glory I had the greatest honor that can be given to a human being: I was visited by the Cosmic CHRIST. The Adorable had a large book in his right hand as if to say to me: "You are now going to enter the sphere of Mercury."

When I saw the Master I could not help but exclaim saying: Lord! You have arrived sooner than I thought. It was not waiting for you yet.

The living Christ replied sweetly: "Sometimes I take a long time to arrive when it is my turn to come in the month of March. You still have to continue dying."

"How to continue dying yet? Yes! The Adorable answered: You have to continue dying," he repeated...

What happened next was prodigious. The Master slowly rose towards the midnight sun, detaching himself a little from the Sun King as if to bless me and forgive my former mistakes...

                                                                                                               CHAPTER XLIV

                                                                                                                    ENIGMAS

Tieh Shan writes:

"I have known Buddhism since I was thirteen years old. At eighteen I entered the priesthood. Later, one day I read a thesis brought by a monk from Hsueh Yen, called" Advanced Meditations. "

"This made me realize that I had not yet reached this point. So I went to see Hsueh Yen and followed his instructions on how to meditate on the word Wu."

"On the fourth night, sweat broke out all over my body, and I felt comfortable and light."

"I remained in the Meditation Room, concentrated, not speaking to anyone."

"Then I saw Miao Kao Feng, who told me to keep meditating on the word Wu endlessly, day and night."

"When I got up, before dawn, the Hua Tou (the meaning of the word, the essence of the sentence) immediately appeared before me."

"As soon as I got a little sleepy I left the seat and descended. The Hua Tou (that is the word Wu) accompanied me as I walked, prepared my bed or food, when I took the spoon or when I put down the chopsticks with me all the time, in all my activities, day and night. "

"If one succeeds in merging his mind into a continuous and homogeneous whole, enlightenment is assured."

"As a result of this advice, I became completely convinced that I had reached this state. On March 20, Master Yen addressed the congregation."

"Sit upright, refresh your minds as if you were on the edge of a ten thousand foot precipice and concentrate on your Hua Tou" (The magic word Wu).

"If you work in this way for seven days (without resting for a single second), you will certainly come to fulfillment. I made a similar effort forty years ago."

"I began to improve as soon as I followed these instructions. On the third day I felt my body floating in the air; on the fourth day I became completely unaware of everything that was happening in this world. That night I stood for a while leaning against a railing. My mind was as serene as it was not conscious. I would constantly hold the Hua Tou (the word Wu) before me and then return to my seat. "

"The moment I was about to sit down, I suddenly had the feeling that my whole body, from the crown of the head to the balls of my feet, was divided."

"I had the feeling that my skull was being broken or that I was being lifted to heaven from a well ten thousand feet deep."

"Then I told Master Yen about this indescribable ecstasy and detached joy that I had just experienced. But Master Yen said: No, it is not this. You must keep working your meditation."

"At my request, he then quoted a few words from the Dharma, the last verses of which were":

"To propagate and glorify the noble deeds of the Buddhas and the Patriarchs you need a good hammer blow to the back of the neck ."

"I was wondering: Why do I need a hammer on the back of my neck? Obviously, there was still a slight doubt in my mind, something of which I was not sure."

"So I continued to meditate for a long time every day, for half a year. Later, on one occasion when I was preparing a herbal concoction for a headache, I remembered a KOAN (enigmatic phrase) in which Red Nose asked a question to Naja: "If you return your bones to your father and your flesh to your mother, where, then, will you be?"

"I remembered then that when the monk who received me asked me this question for the first time, I did not know how to answer him, but now, suddenly, my doubt had disappeared."

"Afterward, I went to see Meng Sham. Master Meng Sham asked me: When and where can we consider our Zen work to be finished?"

"Again I did not know how to answer. Master Meng Sham insisted that I should work harder on meditation (Dhyana) and that I should put aside habitual human thoughts."

"Every time I walked into his room and gave an answer to his question, he said that he had not understood the thing."

"One day I meditated from evening until the next morning, using the power of Dhyana to sustain myself and advance, until I directly reached the stage of profound subtlety."

"Leaving the Dhyana I went to where the Master was and told him my experience. He asked what is your original face?"

"When I was about to answer, the Master threw me out and closed the door. From that moment on, I made a subtle improvement every day."

"Later I realized that all the difficulty had arisen because I had not stayed long enough with Master Hsued Yen working on the delicate and subtle aspects of the task."

"But how fortunate I was to find such an excellent Zen Master! It was only thanks to him that I was able to reach this stage."

"I had not understood that if you exercise incessantly and insistently, you will always have to achieve something from time to time and your ignorance will diminish every step of the way."

"Master Meng Sham told me: This is the same as polishing a pearl. The more you polish it, the brighter, clearer and purer it becomes."

"A polish of this kind is superior to any work of incarnation. However, when I wanted to answer my Master's question, he would tell me that something was missing."

"One day in the middle of meditation the word 'missing' appeared in my mind and suddenly I felt that my body and my mind were opening wide from the marrow of my bones, completely".

"The feeling was as if an ancient mountain of sand suddenly dissolved under the blazing sun, arising after many dark and overcast days."

"I couldn't help it and laughed out loud. I jumped out of my seat, grabbed Master Meng Sham's arm and said: Tell me: What do I need? What do I lack?"

"Master slapped me three times and I prostrated myself before him three times. He said," Oh, Tieh Sham, you have taken many years to get to this point. "
