Washington DC celebrated America’s 250th birthday in style with a gigantic fireworks show that shattered world records.
Footage captured the moment nearly a million fireworks exploded in the sky Saturday night at the National Mall during the Freedom 250 Salute to America event organized by the White House.
The fireworks display was put on by family-owned Pennsylvania-based Pyrotecnico, which said it required help from friends in various nations and required 35 tractor-trailers full of equipment and pyro.
“We’re going to shoot over 850,000 pyrotechnic devices over 40 minutes from 10 locations in Washington, D.C.,” said Pyrotecnico CEO Stephen Vitale.
With over 850,000 fireworks, the show tops the Guinness World Book of Records‘ largest display previously held by the Philippines Church of Christ on Jan 1, 2016.
