Freud once thought that humans are driven by death wishes.
He got often critisized for his claim.
This is not the place having an exegesis of Freud`s thoughts.
Nevertheless, there can be observed many occasions in which wishes of disppearence appear. I´ll give some examples.
Wishes to disappear are related to any imaginations and attempts of unifying with God.
This is a great temptation of mystical thoughts - total disappearence by total dissolution into the divine with no traces left. I want to be no more by getting totally one with God.
Wishes to disappear are related to sexual orgasm experiences.
The lovers come to a point of unification where the single "I" disappears into the joy of no time, space and thinking. But it will not last that long. You have to come back into your separated "I" again. Men tend to turn around and sleep, while females try to have a prolongation by being an emotional and tender clinger many males are not able to stand.
Wishes to disappear are related to suicidal tendencies, thoughts and attempts.
Thoughts have become strong of life affairs being a burden leading to the conclusion of "you better disppear". At least this is a kind of fugue. Whether it is a good solution, is a different question.
Whishes to disappear are generally related to emotional dependencies, where a victim wants to satisfy a perp, the weak part the strong part, the giver the receiver.
There is a nice joke: A masochist meets a sadist. Said the masiochist: torture me! Said the sadist: hell, no!
By disapearing the emotional weak part is thinking, he/she will properly serve the strong / misusing part.
A well balanced human has no extraordinary wishes of disappearance. Instead, when time comes to die, he will not make it a super special event.
Actually we humans came here into this world with an "I" and facing impacts of separation, which will always challenge us - not to fight them, but to let go. That includes also wishes of disappearance...
