She was searching for her mind. At which place I must look?
A wise woman - they called her Haggazusa - was known for always saying strange words.
She went to Haggazusa: Tell me, where is my mind?
Well, Haggazusa said, your mind is sitting on your left shoulder. Go home and look in the mirror!
She went home and got disappointed. She came back to Haggazusa and complained.
Well, Haggazusa replied, now your mind is on your back. Go home and look!
She went and got more disappointed. She came back complaining more.
Haggazusa, she said, are you mad? I didn´t see nothing!
Right, Haggazusa said, you didn´t see nothing. But go a third time home and tell me what you see first you enter your house!
She did so. In the hallway, right across the door there hung a big mirror. She came back to Haggazusa and said: I saw myself in the mirror!
You see, Haggazusa said, your mind is in the mirror, for otherwise the mirror image wouldn´t chose to be known to you!
She went home deeply disappointed. The mirror image chose to be known to me? What nonsense, she thought. She went again to the mirror. Mind, she said, are you there? Tell me, where are you?
She got angry for having followed Haggazusa´s advice three times. I must be stupid, she thought. And she looked again in the mirror and said: Stupid mind! And she outstretched her tongue and the mirror image did the same. She showed her teeth and the mirror image did the same. Then she laughed. And went back to Haggazusa.
Is it that what you want me to know?, she asked. What?, Haggazusa replied. That mind is not here or there, but everywhere? That I am mind? It is that which I was looking for?
How you come to this?, the wise woman asked.
She said: When I saw the mirror image I got aware that it was a mirror image only plus - she was looking for words - I got aware of the complete scene. That means - she started smiling - the complete scene would not have happened without me myself! I must be mind instead of having mind! Otherwise...
Otherwise, Haggazusa continued, you would have not followed my silly advices?
Yes, she said, only a mind itself can be silly, and since I am attracted to silly things, I must be mind!
How is that?, Haggazusa asked.
Well, she said, a mind is a funny thing, and I find myself deeply sensitive, sometimes silly and - she laughed - I am funny at all. I must be a living mind!
And Haggazusa hugged her and said: Welcome to the real life!
And she gave her a small siver can. Here, Haggazusa said, take this medicine against forgetting! But open it only when you are home again!
