Creaking doors and wooden floors,
Bangs and bumps and closing doors,
This shall be a night for all to feel,
A bang in the closet makes us reel,
Wind howling outside the children hide,
The gate slamming outside we hide our pride,
We sit reading a book and ignoring that look,
Of the ghostly figure with a rising hook,
Out goes the light and draw breath we feel,
The cold chill of night which makes us kneel,
Fumbling for the matches to light the candle near,
A shriek pierces the nights filling us with fear,
With the candle lit and the shadows flit,
We turn the corner the shadows dancing a hit,
Chilling the bones and creaking doors,
Heavy footsteps across the wooden floors,
The latch of the window pulling and tugging,
Big eyes in the dark all white and bugging,
The lightning strikes the ground with a heavy pound,
Our hearts beating so fast like a racing hound,
We make near the stairs and laying there glaring,
The dog curled up and with teeth that are a snarling,
We take a step back with a sudden jolt,
The candle go's out and a shock to the heart like a volt,
We turn with dread and with much anxiety.
And as the shadow of the figure becomes so clear,
The wife suddenly shouts "why are you soddin' here!"
