TAKE ACTION: Stop the Slaughter of 15,000 Dogs for Solstice Celebrations in Yulin, China...Sign Partition...plus Spread..Send...Share ( SSS)

Each year on June 21 Solstice, around 15,000 dogs are tortured, killed and consumed by the inhabitants of the city of Yulin in China.The dogs are mostly well-nourished family pets that are stolen for this purpose. They are treated with extreme cruelty en route to their slaughter and are often skinned and boiled alive, in order to raise the adrenaline levels in their bodies, which the Chinese believe aids in male virility and good health.While most people with a heart beating in their chests might wish for instant karma for the city of Yulin, in the form of the world’s biggest sinkhole opening up directly beneath it and swallowing Yulin in its entirety, the chances of that happening before the next Solstice are small. It wouldn’t change much either, because extreme cruelty against animals is commonplace throughout Asia, and it is the consciousness of the entire culture that needs to change. This is happening, slowly. There are a growing number of animal rights activists in China and they need our support.The good news is that we can stop the Dog Meat Festival from going ahead this year. Online activism successfully stopped the dog meat festival of 2011, but it resumed again in 2012 and 2013.There are three petitions to stop the slaughter this year, one targeting the government of China and the others targeting city officials of Yulin, Shaanxi.
