This is a partial repost, (with adjustments) from another discussion regarding the accountability and responsibilities of our governments for our lives.

And the power that we as a people have to change things

....

"The people have the power to do something about it today if they choose.

Its called a revolution.

I do believe your (American) ancestors had one of those.

But things aren't bad enough to get us to action...

"Much more than a revolt against British taxes and trade regulations, the American Revolution was the first modern revolution. It marked the first time in history that a people fought for their independence in the name of certain universal principles such as rule of law, constitutional rights, and popular sovereignty".

http://www.digitalhistory.uh.edu/era.cfm?eraid=3&smtid=1

Your ancestors gave their lives to give you that which you've squandered.

Your laws mandate constitutional rights that are the envy of the world. because of the efforts of those that came before you.

Rights that you people have surrendered

And  (the generic) you want to blame one man.

There is no argument.

There is no excuse.

The buck stops with the people"

......

It is the victim mentality of the people that governs the people.

And nothing will change until the people take accountability for their own lives.

We have become a society of whining, whinging, finger pointing, cowards.

Complaining about a mediocre status quo that we created, and are unwilling to do anything about.

Because that we mean stepping out of our comfort zone.

We've become so used to being comfortable, we crumble at the first sign of difficulty.

Unwilling to take our own lives into our own hands.

And make the hard call that will allow us to discover our true power.

Our spirit.

We think we have it so bad.

Yet we neglect to look beyond our borders to where people have been murdered en masse for uttering things we complain about openly.

Because they aren't even afforded the luxury of freedom of speech.

Amongst other things.

People who live in true hardship don't complain about their lot.

They appreciate every day that they are alive.

Because they know how fragile life truly is.

How can we presume to help the world when we can't even help ourselves?

We think we are so enlightened.

We should be ashamed of ourselves.

The end.

"ASK NOT WHAT CAN YOUR COUNTRY DO FOR YOU

ASK WHAT CAN YOU DO FOR YOUR COUNTRY"

note - clearly this does not apply to everyone.
