These "20 killer aspects" are listed below. This is the first time I've worked with the Black Moon, and yes, it may play a role with importance in relationship astrology.
Two noteworthy marriages that failed to register or be listed with any of Hoffmann's killer aspect list were Joanne Woodward / Paul Newman and Nancy Davis / Ronald Reagan. Both of these couples had marriages that lasted 50(+) years.
Analysis of Ronald Reagan & Nancy Davis
Nancy Reagan has a hard quincunx between her natal Pluto and her natal Black Moon. The midpoint of this quincunx is very close to equality with her natal North Node in the 10th House, and this North Node of Nancy's chart then forms a very close square with Reagan's Mercury / Uranus conjunction ("television; the movies").
If the Black Moon has anything to do with a possible definition of "the family in the house," this may define Nancy Reagan as "under much stress to transform the family in the house" (Pluto Quincunx Black Moon) and "making a connection with someone involved in television and movies" (Nancy's North Node Square Ronald's Mercury/Uranus conjunction).
Analysis of Paul Newman & Joanne Woodward
Joanne Woodward's Sun forms a trine to Paul Newman's Black Moon. The Sun can sometimes represent male figures on a woman's chart in addition to outward personality expression or health. Again, if the Black Moon can be defined as "the family in the house," this may define harmony (trine) of the "household role and expectations" of Newman with "areas associated with men" of Woodward.
The Moon on a man's chart can represent the women in his life, and Newman's natal Moon in the 2nd House opposes Woodward's Neptune in the 8th House. I think Newman was very sexually attracted to Woodward, and the proof of this was a famous statement he made about Woodward when he was asked about adultery and his wife. He stated "why fool around with hamburger when you can have steak at home?"
Three Famous Marriages That Took Hits From Harrald Hoffmann's List And Resulted In Divorce
These three marriages are listed below, along with where in the list of killer aspects that they took hits from Hoffmann's list.
The shortest marriage in duration on the list was Elvis and Priscilla Presley, which lasted six years. The most conflicts and violence on the list was Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz. While their marriage lasted sixteen years, it was claimed by both Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz that the last five years of their marriage as being absolutely horrific. Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton had their first marriage last ten years and their second one lasted one year.
Analysis of Lucille Ball & Desi Arnaz
Lucille Ball's 8th House Sun ("men in a woman's life that may have sexual roles") is a component of a strong formation of Desi Arnaz's Black Moon Sesquiquadrate Lucille Ball's Black Moon. Another planet that is part of this aspect is Desi Arnaz's Mars placement in his natal 3rd House forming a Quincunx to Lucille Ball's natal 8th House Sun placement.
These tense aspects involving Lucille Ball's 8th House Sun position could define much "sexual tension" or "tension related to sex."
Desi Arnaz reportedly was sexually wild in terms of adultery during the last five years of their marriage. One story involved Arnaz hiring sixteen prostitutes for a private party, and he reportedly sang "BaBaLoo" to them while he was nude. Another story was Arnaz getting caught by his wife with another woman, and Lucille Ball reportedly grabbed what she thought was a pistol, aimed it at Desi, and squeezed the trigger. When a flame popped out of the barrel, Desi Arnaz walked up to her, gently took the pistol away, and lit a cigar with it.
Analysis of Richard Burton & Elizabeth Taylor
The Mercury placements of both Burton and Taylor square each other, and hard. This could indicate a much need for debate and arguments in the environment. While it is known that married couples do fight, the problem is the possible household definition of the Black Moon. Notice that Burton's Black Moon forms a quincunx to Taylor's Sun position. If the Sun represents "men in the life of a woman," the quincunx with Burton's Black Moon could indicate "tension in the household with the male figure." Taylor's Black Moon forms a trine with Burton's Neptune, and this could be related to Liz Taylor often complaining about Richard Burton's drinking in the house.
Also note that Burton's Pluto forms a square to Taylor's MC (Midheaven). One of Hoffmann's killer aspects was Male Pluto Sesquiquadrate Female MC, and both the square and sesquiquadrate are part of the same 8th harmonic complex (conjunction, semi-square, square, sesquiquadrate, opposition) used in Uranian astrology to define equality.
Analysis of Elvis & Priscilla Presley
Elvis and Priscilla were married from 1967 to 1973, and a major reason for their divorce was the drug consumption of Elvis. He also performed outlandish acts in the house, such as shooting out his televisions if the stock market wasn't doing well. He reportedly shot 5-6 television sets in his house.
Elvis has a Mars Semi-Sextile Neptune placement ("drugs, intoxicants, deceptive actions"). Priscilla's natal Moon placement is nearby and of the same degree, and forming a semi-sextile fan with this Mars / Neptune combination of Elvis. This could indicate tension in "the family setting" (the Moon) as a result of Elvis's drug use (Mars Semi-Sextile Neptune) .
A couple of members of Elvis's security detail reported serious drug use by Elvis during the last three years of his marriage. One urban tale that is often heard was related to the famous photo of Elvis and Nixon together. The story goes that Elvis was high on heroin at the time, and he traded with Nixon his favorite gun (a Colt Python) for a D.E.A. badge. Elvis reportedly carried the badge in a box that contained his drug paraphernalia used for heroin and cocaine.
Conclusion
Harrald Hoffmann's "20 killer aspects" worked in all five cases presented in this report. This listing of twenty aspects should thus be a strong consideration for use as a tool when analyzing the horoscopes of couples who may want to know about the longevity potential of their relationship.
