Unconditional Love, such an abused term. The ultimate get out of jail free card. "I love you unconditionally, why can't you do the same for me?" Clearly, there is a problem.
This is one of the many thoughts I had in a night of adventures that started by turning up at a night club 24 hours early because I was so pumped for a dance. (I thank all of you who allowed me to live out that charade. You facilitated one of the most profound nights of my life.), to bumping into one of my dearest friends who, because we realized we were part of each others problem, had broken contact with with each other, to a hallucinogen inspired 3 hour, at 3 am in the morning walk, lost in the back streets of the suburbs I had grown up in. I hope to share these thoughts with you over the coming days, as the fog slowly lifts. :)-
Back to this concept of unconditional love. What does it really mean? In the purest sense of the word love is, by definition. unconditional. It is an absolute. So to tell someone that you love them unconditionally detracts from the word. It is, in and of itself, a condition. The semantic loading on the word "unconditional" is different for everyone. And inevitably, it takes the intended recipient of that "unconditional" love out of love and into a (deeper)? state of fear. Because lets face it. if we were ok with the concept of "unconditional" the planet wouldn't be in the mess it's in now, would it. we love our boundaries. unconditionally. (Bugger isn't it).
I propose, that in the world we live in, at this moment, physically, spiritually, mentally, vibrationally, you love someone unconditionally when you consistently hold them accountable to their highest potential. Regardless of the consequences to the relationship. to speak your truth always. Even when you know they aren't going to like it. Even when it pains you knowing it may mean the end of the relationship. Even if it means a romp through the daffodils with a butterfly net. Because you want for them to fulfil their highest potential. I recognize that this is turning love, the emotion, into a behaviour. However, in a fear based society, it is the action, which I believe, best demonstrates the intention of unconditional love. Because if you both keep chipping away at it, and not take it personally, eventually you both fulfil your highest potentials. And then can't help but fall in love.
