Food plays a profound role in our individual lives, especially in terms of our health. It also plays a role in the future security of our planet, and all the creatures inhabiting it. It has now becoming widely known that adopting a plant-based (vegan) diet can positively impact the health and lives of all the world’s living creatures. So how do we do it? How do you go from the typical Western diet of burgers, fries, pizza, and backyard barbecue fare to a diet of delicious, colorful, health-promoting plant foods?Maybe you find yourself in this position. Maybe you’re ready for change. You’ve mentally determined that you are ready to make this change, but now what? Where do you turn for answers?Transitional Guide to a Plant-Based (Vegan) DietIt’s Easy to Start Eating Vegan! Yummy Plants 101 is just what you’re looking for if this is you. The book, authored by Rebecca Gilbert, is a beginner’s guide to adopting a vegan diet. Rebecca has taken what seems to be the ‘mental mountain’ of “I just don’t think I can make the sweeping changes to becoming a vegan” and made it easy for readers of Yummy Plants 101.The book focuses on using vegetables, fruits, legumes, and whole grains as the cornerstone of a healthy, plant-based diet. Thrown in with these four basic food groups are a range of transitional vegan foods such as dairy substitutes, dessert options, and refrigerated/frozen vegan substitute foods. Rebecca states, “as your taste buds change, it becomes easier and easier to make more substitutions.”Chapter-by-Chapter GuideThe book includes six easy-to-read chapters on making this dietary switch. They include:Chapter 1 – Basics of a Vegan DietThis chapter introduces you to a vegan diet and contains a nice overview of the topic of protein in the diet since this is on the minds of many making this switch. It also offers fabulous tips on how to make your own homemade nut milks (almond, cashew, brazil, and so forth), as well as offering advice on finding egg substitutes.Chapter 2 – Stocking Your Vegan Fridge and PantryChapter two provides you with exactly what it says… various ways to keep your kitchen stocked with the essentials, both perishable and non-perishable items commonly used in everyday vegan living.Chapter 3 – Introduction to Grains and SeedsThis chapter was my favorite! It offered a great overview of whole grains and seeds you can use as a base to many of your meals. From brown rice to oats to many other grains you may have yet to hear of like millet, quinoa, and amaranth, Rebecca does a wonderful job explaining the uniqueness of each grain or seed.Chapter 4 – Out and About - How to Stay VeganMany of us in today’s culture love to eat out or attend social gatherings centered on food. Rebecca provides some useful tips on how to do this while keeping you on track with your new lifestyle.Chapter 5 – Helpful ResourcesThere are a lot of questions when making changes to a plant-based diet. This chapter offers resources to help you make the transition. Connect to like-minded individuals at the Yummy Plants online community forum or find important health tips from physicians using food as medicine (Neal Barnard, MD and Joel Fuhrman, MD).Chapter 6 – Sample Meals and RecipesThis chapter will load you up with meal plan and recipe ideas to start you off on your journey towards plant-based living. Everything from breakfast, lunch, and dinner are covered with a variety of vegan foods to quench your taste buds. All are savory and delicious so you won’t be missing out like you thought you might be. This chapter is a nice guide for those transitioning to a plant-based diet based on whole foods. As mentioned before, the goal is ultimately to help people center their overall diet on vegetables, fruits, legumes, and whole grains. These foods give you the best chance at achieving optimal health. How to Get Your Copy of It's Easy to Start Eating Vegan! It’s Easy to Start Eating Vegan! is a wonderful tool for newbies to the vegan lifestyle. • Last night till 2am I was in VANTRA VEGAN RESTAURANT sitting and talking with the owner of this best Vegan Restaurant in London and we were talking about how to improve life on Planet Earth.
Came across this by chance today while having Chai Tea in Starbucks so posted it for I think the biggest change on this Planet could/would happen if all beings become vegetarians/Vegans.
I am nearly Vegan apart from a little milk in tea and the odd chocolate and ice cream .
    • I love coming to vegan restaurants and getting involved with owners to have a talk about many things vegan. Such conversations are just uplifting. You know, theres another one that just opened in Chicago and making plans with my vegan woman to go there and check it out. Theres one in my neiborhood and it is always busy and at times packed with all kinds of people( vegan movement is getting bigger and better ).........also theres a store coming here soon that will sell all vegan shoes........

I hope I didnt preach too much.....................

        • This isn't hard.  I think part of this type of thinking is that some vegans forget that being vegan is actually a luxury.  For the homeless person or the one who is having financial problems, it's much cheaper to order something off the dollar menu from McDonald's than eating vegan.  From person experience, there were times in my life where my mother was struggling and she had to go with whatever was cheapest.  There were times where we got food from a food pantry of a church and whatever you got, you ate.  You couldn't say, "Sorry, I can't eat this because I'm vegan."

Now, I'm vegan and have been for 6 years.  I'm financially struggling, and I have a roommate.  If it weren't for the roommate, I couldn't be vegan and if I managed to find a way to continue doing so, it would cause greater financial strain.  Besides that, I think people forget that we are not above the system, we are part of it.  Life consumes life; life uses life.  It's not a bad thing nor a good thing, it simply is.  And there's nothing wrong with consuming animals because one likes the taste of them.  They aren't evil people, they're just people.

theres a good reason to go vegan...............

            • I'm sure that's accurate. For factory farming.  And let's not pretend there aren't ways to conserve water and improve animal raising and slaughtering practices overall.  The problem is that the companies behind factory farms don't want to do it.  My argument still stands.
